WILDCAT EVO - Any good?

Yes very and its all I will now use but I would go With there Predator 8 . But thats just what I would use and use on the 270

ase utra will out last the wildcat evolution but is heavier, i have a wildcat on my 6.5x55 and gas cutting on the stainless blast baffle is a major issue, even worse now that wildcat can not sell you these parts seperately !!

Ive had mine about 6 years and it's still fine. I also noticed the gas cutting on the first baffle after only a few months, but never take it apart anymore. I probably shoot about 100 rounds a year though it, so I guess it's lasted well, they are pretty heavy though.

I will second this!

And they all leak at the joints, even if you think yours doesn’t I can assure you it will!

Had a P12 on my 22-250 and it shredded three mod covers despite going back multiple times to Wildcat so I swapped to ASE UTRA.

If you look at the frames bellow taken from a slow motion video below you can see the smoke/gas leaking at the rear and centre joint, this is an evo on a 308.

They are very quiet if the leaking doesn’t bother you.

@samdk Really good point regarding the leaking, never really understood why, but this is a photo of a shot at dusk, you can see a second flash at the back. I wasn't even aware this was an issue until your post!

They are great mods but not the lightest, if that matters to you. On a pure stalking rifle I would go DPT. If for range work the evo would prob last longer

Have Evos on my 6mmBR close to 800 rounds through it & on my. 204 approx 300 rounds through it.
No issues to report, quiet, light & easy to strip & clean👍

Great photo @Henns! 👏🏼

I have found it on all evo and predator moderators that I have used unfortunately!
A good way to test is to wrap the mod in a thin, tight layer of tin foil (cover the back but NOT the muzzle), fire the rifle and watch the foil magically disappear!

The leaking is not really an issue unless you have mirage issues and need to fit a cover to the mod, then it’s a real pain!

The photo below was only after a couple of rounds, I only noticed because the cover blew back over my barrel.

I bought one new when i bought my Tikka 243 new.
I have had lots of trouble with mine.
First problem after less than 12 month's use the 14/1 thread became very tight when trying to screw the moderator on the rifle, it wasn't the rifle threads, it was the moderator threads that had sort of shrunk i had to have these's threads re cut ----this has had to be done twice now over a period of time.
The second problem is the baffle end of the mod, this is a sort of inverted funnel shape and the flame/hot gasses hit the end of this as well as going through, this burn's this funnel and miss shapes it, if you don't re file and de burr it, it will foul the bullet as it goes through.
In fareness to Wildcat, they did replace this baffle part free of charge, but the replacement has started eroding away just like the original. (wildcat are aware of this problem and blame Hornady 58g v-max ammunition i was using)---------to me the design is wrong, you want the hot gasses going "through" not onto the baffle.
Lastly, i am told that they have stopped selling spare parts for these's now.

On my 22-250 i have a ASE ultra sl5i, this has been no trouble at all and its a moderator that i would recommend.

got one on a 308, no problems at all, easy to strip down, well made, and balances the rifle when you pull that trigger.
