Winchester super X in 222

Was out a week past Friday and shot at a fox at 50 yards, broadside on, heard the bullet strike and expected fox to drop. No chance, it took off like a scalded cat! Searched for a while but no sign, back in daylight with a dog and again nothing. Out this morning and dropped two vixens in the same field then another fox approached, limping up the field. Dropped him at 100 paces and upon examination noted an open wound on his right shoulder. Exactly where my crosshairs had been on last weeks fox, got to be the same one. It appears that the 50 grain Winchester super X disintegrated on impact with the shoulder with no penetration. Is this common with this bullet? New to 22 centrefires having used 243 previously and now 308. Loving the 222 apart from this one instance.

I’ve been using these rounds for a while in both my .222’s, probably in excess of 1000 round and had no issues, but will say they do appear to be quite frangible when compared to V-max so a splash is definitely possible I would say.

I have used them ( to get the empty cases for reloading ) in my 222. On paper I found them to be alright. In the field I did not think they were as good as I thought they would be. I had a couple of foxes that ran on after the shot ( 10 yards or so ). Hornady V-Max or Nosler Ballistic tip are my preference.

Thanks gent’s, bought them because they were cheap and available. Seem ok accuracy wise but will keep an eye on the terminal performance. Never had that issue with 150gn 308.😁
