S.W.M.BO has decided the cctv system ( hardwired) is too much and wireless is the way forward.
Any personal recommendations of good simple( like me) 4 camera wireless system most welcome.
Over to you oh fountains of knowledge.

Arlo and you can add a smart door bell.

My dad has the Ring system and its pretty good.

Note - if you go wireless - buy some decent rechargable batteries - saves a fortune.

I went with wired Reolink for outside and Blink for the inside. I don't like the fact that wifi based cameras can be so easily knocked off the network and that quality is rather bad compared to wired (IP cameras).
Apparently, if you film someone on external CCTV breaking into your property, it's only an offence. If you have them on camera inside the property, that's good for prosecution.

lots of different makes. one thing to check is ongoing costs ... i went with Eufy, good selection, decent quality pictures, expandable system, decent battery life.

??? any film/pictures are evidence if presented in a prosecution. i think whoever told you that meant that it is one offence if person outside trying to break in - forces usually prosecute for criminal damage as easier to prove that attempt burglary, whereas once inside different offence prosecuted as burglary is easier to then prove

Sorry, I didn't explain myself correctly.
You are right - both are offences but difference is which video can reliably prove which one - this may become important if it comes to prosecution.
Basically, any video will be helpful to police, but if you want to have really strong evidence, it is best to have external + internal.

Explanation:
If someone enters your garden for example and looks around, that is trespassing. If they enter your property or part of it (garage?) while trespassing and with intent to steal/damage then this is burglary (more serious offence).
CCTV video from external camera will basically prove trespassing (they are usually hanging higher up) and even if it films someone opening back door and walking in, they are still trespassing unless video can clearly show they had entered the property. To prove it, you'd need to have their face (no mask) or fingerprints. In many cases cameras higher up will not give you that and cameras lower down can be easily disabled.

This is where Blink is really nice for internal stuff (runs off 2 AA batteries, very configurable, grabs audio and video, has night vision), just hide the sync module somewhere out of sight so it can't be easily taken.
