woodcock chick

Was out with the dog yesterday and had a woodcock fly up right in front of me, I immediately pulled back the dog and just as well as three little chicks were right in front of us.

I took a quick pic and then turned back walking around the area to leave them in peace, the mother was doing the broken wing dance about 15-20 meters away.

A great finish to a days hiking! :-D

Lovely sight. Not many people in Britain would have been lucky enough to see this, as most fly back to you in spring to breed. :)

Thanks all, it was great to see.

I've found the chicks a couple of times now whilst out hiking.

Cool. Thanks for sharing Jonher. Was that in Norway or the UK? Thanks.

Hi mate, this was in Norway.

very nice J.

we have a set aside section of land on the estate called stone curlew area 1, sadly i have not seen any this year but we do have plenty of these fellows,

well done

bob.

Fact

I've seen one do it and we found her other two chicks hiding nearby just like in the OP's pic. Although I think they carry them between their feet and body rather than underwing

What about seeing the mother flying with chicks under her wing. Myth, or fact??
