Anyone use a Amarok 180bhp auto, if so what's the average MPG. Also, anyone chipped a Amarok 180bhp auto and what's the increase in MPG?
Thanks
DS
Not an auto, I have the manual, but love it. Drives like a car, almost, and good, on/off road, subject to tires.
There are owners claiming an average of circa 38-40mpg, but I can't get anywhere near it, on my best day, regardless of how I drive. I'm pleased if I see circa 30mpg on the motorway.
As for "tuning", well, done properly, you'll certainly see an increase in power, and torque, and I would recommend having it "remapped" by an experienced tuner, over ANY of the "tuning box" options out there. I have "back to back" tested several, on a rolling road, and the claimed power figures are at best grossly over stated, as are the improved fuel economy figures. Part of the issue, is REGARDLESS of what some companies claim, they have no RPM input, and fuel is thrown in, even when you don't need it.
Unlike petrol engines, the power of diesel engines is increased by
adding fuel. Tuning boxes do this by off-setting the fuel pressure sensor signal, so the ECU thinks it's running less fuel than it actually is. The ECU adds fuel to compensate, and more power is achieved.
However, the ECU
thinks it's running less fuel, and the on-board computer will show a significant increase in fuel economy. It is false. The only way to get a more accurate idea is to to top the tank up, do XXX miles, top the tank, and work out fuel v miles. Even this will be +/- a few %.
A good remap, where the actual parameters, and values are adjusted, should improve both power, and economy by a small %.
Bottom line, either will give more power, but just drive, and enjoy !
