Anyone heard of this as a fox attractor ? Seem to remember being told about it years ago when I was a pest control officer for the use of attracting fox to an area but never had opportunity to try it
Thanks in advance
Jimmy

Hi

It is apparently attractive to a range of animals for whatever reason.

The hoof clippings, and scrapings from the frog? of the hoof need to be bottled and left for sometime in a warm location to 'ferment', which leads to the attractiveness in the liquer.
I have some fermenting from last year but have yet to try it - just not sure I want to risk it tainting clothing or the like and find difficulty in removing.

Your supposed to boil the hoof clippings I think until the water goes black and then leave to ferment etc...yes Paddy it does stink and though I've never used it I'd love to try it some day...so anybody out there who can supply me with some hoof trimming drop me a pm please and I'll let you know how quickly I threw up and how quickly the wife left me and most importantly how good was it for drawing Charles...Hugh.:-D

boil them but remember to leave them in a warm room to get the best results open the lid every week and give them a turn an old pal used to use them find a farrier nr you they prob give them free to collect and you may even pick up some pest control :norty:

sorry mty cant do it to you boil them to they are a sticky mush :stir: decant into a small bottle's and treat it like napalm use gloves and for the love of mike don't spill in the motor ? haha but its gag tastic on the red boys and most other predators .

Magic stuff when prepared as per Paul o' recipe but take his warning very serious. Gloves and don't spill in your motor or on your clothes. Irresistible to fox but it stinks.

Heard folk using it on cottonswool nalls then leaving in an area with cat food as an attractant / bait station

I've made this concoction for foxes and it really does work , after its fermented it get lots better and more potent.
**********warning **********
1/ Don't boil up hoof trimmings in the house
2/ Use a pot that is expendable
3/ Don't let your dogs get access to it..... ever
4/ Use gloves when handling it

I use a spray bottle to disperse the liquid then I keep the bottle in a sealable container

good luck .

Paul O is quite right in what he has said and so is the post I have highlighted, I have made and used it so I know only too well! Whatever you do if you are planning on making or using any of this "Attractant" than take head of what Griffshrek has said. When made "properly" and fermented for a good time in the sunshine (On a shed roof or somewhere that inquisitive hands or paws can't reach or get to it for a good few months) to say that this stuff stinks is a bit/heck of an understatement. (Best not to store this vile smelling concoction which Charles loves so much in a plastic bottle in case it cracks or splits)
The only way that I can describe this stuff is that it smells something like a cross between rotten eggs and decomposing flesh so once again be warned - Do not spill or splash any of this "attractant" on your clothes, furniture, car or anything that you put even the slightest value on!

Having read what's been put and taking heed of the warning, is it possible to leave bottled for longer and avoid the boiling part ''so I don't get ear ache from her !!''

Boil it out side, I made some last year and went out with it after it had been sitting in the summer heat for 3 mths, it was in a plastic jar with screw lin and in a plastic bucket with lid in case of accident and we had to drive with the windows open as felt sick with the pong lol

It is possible to ferment it without boiling but I don't think it would be so "effective"! The best thing to do is to get a small cheap camping gas ring and an old cheap metal saucepan "with a lid" and boil it at the bottom end of your garden. It is better stored in the sun in clear glass bottles to mature. Again one more word of warning - Whatever you do don't even think of using one of the better half's kitchen saucepan for this unless you fancy going without any "bedtime cuddles" for the rest of your married life!

Take heed of the warning 1) don't boil up hoof trimmings in the house..... I used to make lots of this stuff in the greenhouse, it does work and the best way to use it is to soak a rag in it and hang it about 3ft off the ground, set up anywhere within range, quartering the wind and wait. When you have finished the session take the rag away so Charlie can't investigate it and not bother next time. Hoof trimming can be got from any riding stable if you just leave them a bag to be filled next time the farrier is due...... have fun.

I got a cheapo pressure cooker from a car boot sale that way it limits the boiling smell a tad and an hour in the pressure cooker is like many hrs boiling .

keep us posted mty its gagtastic gear but one way to have to sell your motor cheap if you spill it :stir: it well leave it as long as you can .:fox: :fox: :tiphat:
