Elmwood College complete DSC1 in one day

Hi All,

I have just been informed by Elmwood College that the whole DSC1 Course in March is only a ONE day course, starting at 09.30am and finishing at approx 3.30pm ,this is as far as I know includes the shooting section as well.

I have just paid out £300 for the course and not panicking but can anyone tell me if it's actually possible to do the complete course in one day?

Is anyone else on here doing the course at Elmwood on friday 8th March and been told anything different?

As far as I can see no other company, Jelen, BDS etc do not do one day courses, it's either 2 or 3 days.
I was speaking to them today because I also thought it should of been 2 days. They have assured me it is the full course in one day as there is not many people attending. I will pm you the response I received through email.

Looks like you will have to get stuck i to the course notes and the online study section before you get there
Good Luck

If they are offering it in one day I think it's a shame as to me it wasn't about simply cramming the answers into you in a day so that you could pass the exam, I did mine with the forestry commission and it was 4.5 days spent with other like minded individuals learning far more than just the answers to pass the test, if that's all you want to do you might just as well get the CD and keep playing it until you know the answers, it doesn't mean you really understand it all. When I did mine we had actual deer to gralloch so we could see the lymph nodes etc.

To confirm- as OP suggested I think the ‘one day’ bit was an error on the page and was since corrected to two days.

+1

I imagine that learning to pass the exam in one day could be achieved with pre-course prep as described above. The BDS 4.5 day course I did contained a myriad peripheral gems of information that a cram session could never hold. And many novice students benefitted from the collective experience and wisdom of all attendees in the room as we had time to discuss all points raised . That course also had sufficient time for a witnessed gralloch with Q&A. Invaluable.

1 day for dsc1 ??? I did mine with the BDS and the course I recall was 4 days classroom and 3/4 of a day shooting / safety exercises ....I didn't think that was long enough as there was so much to take in...I thought I knew about deer etc until I received the DSC training manual then my head went into meltdown..

It is a great course and I think it shouldn't be rushed / crammed into just one day .

The guys who ran my course were brilliant .

Im booked for the SRUC Barony DSC1 next weekend (19th/20th). Looking forward to it. I have pals that have done the course over 3/4 days and their suggestion was that a 2 day course would be intense and squeezed in - but not too much in two days. I would prefer to have taken a 3/4 day course but not prepared to sacrifice 2 holiday days off work for it. Anyone on this thread heading to SRUC DSC course in the near future or have done a 2 day SRUC course recently?

Thanks.

R.S.
I did the two day course with Paul Adkins a few years ago, all the reading material was sent out well In advance giving the opportunity for plenty of self study prior to attending. The course itself was very well presented and provided everything required to pass DSC1.

Even it it was a small number of atendees to be able to absorb and understand the amount of information needed to to be comptenet and pass a DSC1 in 1 day, is in my opinion, impractical. You need regular breaks and group discussions to ensure learning capacity is maintained and the information has been understood correctly, prior to attempting an examination paper.

Crumbs ! They must have beefed up the course !

I did DSC1 when first came out & was one day ... got the cd rom before hand to gen up on it .... turned up did all the sections the simulated safety stalk then the shoot test at the end ... done ... 1 day.

Mine was with FC and 1day ,must have been 10 others and didn't feel rushed at all ,as said the cd rom helped me big time .

I done it in 2 days and it was really intense but the way I look at it is if I’m paying £300 I want £300 worth of knowledge that I didn’t have before the course and not just £300 for the answers. I have a cd with all the answers but I really enjoyed the course I found it really interesting and l learned a lot more than l was expecting to learn.

Hi there yes l done my dsc1 at the Barony about 3 months ago the instructor was James Taylor I think and he was really knowledgeable and really funny It’s obvious he’d been a fc stalker for years and Andrew treadaway done the shooting part at the fc stalkers range at AE Hope you enjoy it l did.
Good luck.

1 day full course it can't be. You won't be able to take it all in and there's not enough time for all the course work. It must be just the assessment and shooting

Borders College do 5 evening classroom sessions of 2 + hours for the theory learning. Then the three paper assessments on the 6th night . The shooting and safety aspects are then assessed on a full day at a weekend to suit the clients. This works well for clients that are unable to take time off from their day jobs.
