DMQ Wild boar qualification

I'm not certain but I believe the origins were actually in the BDS and the St Hubert's Club.

No, BASC and their Deer Officer at the time, who of course entirely coincidentally then became Director DI, were instrumental in formulating it. Some higher up in BDS were not happy bunnies about the situation.
I attended the sessions at Minsterley where the course content and practicalities were fine tuned - even have the relevant books and notes still kicking around somewhere.

Any DSC Certs are NOT a Legal Requirement in British Law, or the Qualifications. They are both Worthless. Any Government or body tell you must have one of these Qualifications before you can shoot Deer is open to redress of Discrimination in a Court of Law
Forest operators / owners, CAN AND WILL tell you if it's part of their rules, what you can and cannot shoot, so you are partly incorrect in your statement.

I know Monarman very well and I've met the said girl in this incident 5ft 2" and of slight build and yes maybe a slight air of arrogance but who can say they've wrestled a wild boar /feral pig:tiphat: so until there is some sort of legislation on calibre for boar as for seasons I would like see one at least people showing respect for sows with young at foot as with muntjac same respect with young.
So how a BMQ can justified I'm un sure how it could be, but if i were asked to do the course by the powers that be (Employers) then I would be on it not saying I agree but I would be on it each to there own opinion I shoot 270/ 308 some people dont like em I do my opinion so let's not have another thread going into a bun fight or i may start issuing ASQ certs out they £100 :thumb:

Regards SDM

I have to Wrestle the Wife to get a Leg over, and she is as Big as a Feral Pig.

Was that the same time as we were assured that it wouldn’t be used by the police ?

The fact that that hasn't happened anyway, by natural progression, does support the theory that the introduction of a brand new course is driven by economics.

Similar to the ‘Pre-DSC1” and myriad other courses on offer from a well-known shooting organisation then? ;)

No the time that I am talking about goes back before then to the days of the woodland stalkers certificate. Somehow that fell down and a "clever chap" from just outside Cardiff claimed copyright on the original training manuals and tried to hold them to ransom when they were trying to set it up again. This caused some delay as everything had to be re-written from scratch.

I did not say they were a legal requirement and did not say anyone had to have them. As you are obviously a legal expert you have your opinion but that does not make it any more correct than anyone elses.

Of course a BMQ is needed. How are you going to get boar managers like you have deer managers:-|? You need qualifications so some people can feel self important.
The whole hunting, stalking, firearms scene in the UK is a complete cluster phuck often encouraged by the participants in the sport and weak to useless hunting organisations. The UK must be unique in Europe in not having a nationwide, uniform hunting test.
I did the Swedish hunting test because i had too. There are different providers of a uniform hunting test that covers all types of hunting. The hunting test is occasionally up date to keep it relevant. The last time it was changed was to bring it into the digital world.
I never hear of a deer manager, best practice Etc,etc here. We have "sunt förnuft" Thats common sense.
There seems those that want turn simple things like reloading, deer dog training and even stalking into some sort of black art. something i don't notice here.
As I've said before i often read posts on SD with a sad smile on my face and see UK hunting galloping to its doom with its own participants holding the reigns.

If we really had the reigns (as in a real NRA) .... things would be very very different.

No one in the UK can make you require a bogus QUALIFICATION

Well said Jagare, I agree with you. It just seems in the UK we have people who will not stand up for their Shooting rights, but just go along with anything they are told to do like Sheep. And are only making a Rod for their own back for doing things they Don't Blo==dy Need. I cant wait for Boar LICENSE 1/2/ and 3 and DSC 4/ 5/AND 6

I haven’t read all of the replies but I think that people’s offence boils down to the fact that the word “qualification” is used. If it was just a course to learn about wild boar, basically NOBODY would complain at all.
By making it a “qualification” they imply that anyone without it is “unqualified” and therefore inferior. That potentially undermines people’s reputations and could cost them their lease/permission. Same goes for DSC1/2 I guess.
It’s the thought that some day, those of us who have been getting along just fine without any formal “qualifications” may be forced into suddenly giving up a big chunk of money and time, to attend courses that we don’t actually feel that we need to go on.

I’ve hunted/stalked with a fair cross section of different folks over the years, from complete beginners to seasoned “pro-stalkers” and I can honestly say that I believe that having a so called “qualification” has nothing to do with how safe somebody is or how competent someone is.
I’ve seen people with vast amounts of qualifications AND experience make the stupidest mistakes, making the most ridiculous claims, getting the most basic things wrong, or displaying the most immoral attitudes, but I’ve also seen the complete novices with no qualifications taking enormous care to be extra safe, making good decisions in the field, and generally being a credit to hunting everywhere.

Exactly, Well done and a good post explained in English, but will only fall on Deaf ears.

Not a Legal Expert, but just someone with Common Sense :old:

I've come across a few estate/deer managers who like to see DSC as proof of being a safe shot, but IMO instead of dsc1 all that's needed is a shooting test similar to FC before being allowed to shoot deer/boar. Morning session on the range, minimum cost and away you go.

Then if you want to you can do the hygiene portion as a separate course.

I don't think you are relegating hygiene to a lower importance, but it sounds that way how you have put it, game meat hygiene is paramount, a few peeps just died from iffy butties, never mind wild game, see here, https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...hinosis.html&usg=AOvVaw1COYRs0j6RHQu9MSeBDFE3
