Mike is quite right regarding the limitations on the BASC SSC cards. Although BASC are HO approved they have several unique dispensations, such as no probationary period, not having to inform the police of new full members joining or leaving etc. With no probationary period or formal induction course, BASC RCOs do not get the opportunity to fully assess a members shooting skills, range discipline, safe firearm handling skills or overall attitude as would normally be the case when a member is subject to a minimum three month or more probationary period. On assessment days there is simply neither the time or logistics available to cover all the elements required to ensure a shooter will be competent and safe to be able to shoot at varying/changing distances beyond 200 yards. Therefore the simple maxim, with most deer legal calibres, is to zero either 1 or 2 inches high at 100 yds and the fall of shot will be within MPBR at 200 yds and on target, hence the distance restriction on the SSC.I'm afraid that you are mistaken there Mark or you have confused the H4H with another event such as range days run by BASC at the BSRC. At the H4H there was no need for the safe shooter certificate (SSC) as all shooters were closely monitored/supervised. We have never had the authority to issue such certificates as we aren't an affiliated club merely guests of the BSRC (British Sporting Rifle Club) who very generously hosted the H4H shoot.
I would also like to add to what Oracle has already said regarding those certificates issued by BASC. It's my understanding that certificates issued by BASC are limited to ranges up to 200yards/metres. So if you have a SSC issued by BASC and attempt to book a lane at Bisley through BASC you should not be able to book ranges longer than 200 yards/metres.
Incidentally my SSC ran out in December and I recently enquired about joining the NRA as an individual member so that I could shoot at the Phoenix meeting and possibly this shoot on the 8th of September. I though that it would be a simple matter to extend it but the NRA wanted me to take two re-assessments for which they would only charge me a further £50 on top of my annual membership fee. I declined their very kind offer and decided not to take up membership of the NRA. In light of recent events between the BSRC and the NRA I am very glad now that I did.
But I use a scope at 200 yards and it won't fit in the space between me and the computer!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway less about the goat's ring if you don't mind. It lowers the tone!!
David.
A fair and sensible question as I don’t believe the BSRC range will be open on the Sunday according the calendar as the Ashes Match is on the Saturday. Best double check via rangehire@bsrc.co.uk though.Presumably the BSRC range will be open too on 8th September?
Well I suppose that as a full club member, I could always open it myself....A fair and sensible question as I don’t believe the BSRC range will be open on the Sunday according the calendar as the Ashes Match is on the Saturday. Best double check via rangehire@bsrc.co.uk though.
