Sporting Rifle Shoot – Sunday 8th September 2019

Early bump and note please the amended date for this year's shoot in the heading.

This enjoyable days shooting with something other than a roe buck to connect with at only 200 yards should be a simple propersition for all the SD Longrangers/Snipers so get the date in our diary now please and show us how it's done.

I'd like to say the entry requirements have changed but they haven't so please comply accordingly. Rocking up with a nicely folded and preserved FAC for the rifle in question is not enough.

I believe so. Details earlier in the thread for last yrs event. If i was closer id look into it but not worth the hassle if i have to be assessed and pay for a card to enter one comp at bisley.

Can we not get certed on the day like we used to for H4H I have my SPC but its out of date :(

If you are a BASC member and already possess a personal FAC, you can take the SSC assessment at one of their range days held at BSRC, Bisley. You must register for the range day thru BASC SE, take the assessment, and if successful, your SSC will be issued on the day. Next BASC range day is 8th August, but they are very popular so places may be limited. Once issued your SSC will also allow you to book a shooting lane at Bisley, through BASC SE, and shoot unsupervised on certain Bisley ranges.

Thanks for a really useful post Oracle. Perhaps it would be useful to combine this information with the conditions for entry in a new thread so that people don't have to scroll back and forth. Also the script in the first thread is tiny.

Kind regards,

David.

Nuts do you need one :( didn't get a renewal at H4H this year :(

I'm afraid that you are mistaken there Mark or you have confused the H4H with another event such as range days run by BASC at the BSRC. At the H4H there was no need for the safe shooter certificate (SSC) as all shooters were closely monitored/supervised. We have never had the authority to issue such certificates as we aren't an affiliated club merely guests of the BSRC (British Sporting Rifle Club) who very generously hosted the H4H shoot.

I would also like to add to what Oracle has already said regarding those certificates issued by BASC. It's my understanding that certificates issued by BASC are limited to ranges up to 200yards/metres. So if you have a SSC issued by BASC and attempt to book a lane at Bisley through BASC you should not be able to book ranges longer than 200 yards/metres.

Incidentally my SSC ran out in December and I recently enquired about joining the NRA as an individual member so that I could shoot at the Phoenix meeting and possibly this shoot on the 8th of September. I though that it would be a simple matter to extend it but the NRA wanted me to take two re-assessments for which they would only charge me a further £50 on top of my annual membership fee. I declined their very kind offer and decided not to take up membership of the NRA. In light of recent events between the BSRC and the NRA I am very glad now that I did.

Mike is quite right regarding the limitations on the BASC SSC cards. Although BASC are HO approved they have several unique dispensations, such as no probationary period, not having to inform the police of new full members joining or leaving etc. With no probationary period or formal induction course, BASC RCOs do not get the opportunity to fully assess a members shooting skills, range discipline, safe firearm handling skills or overall attitude as would normally be the case when a member is subject to a minimum three month or more probationary period. On assessment days there is simply neither the time or logistics available to cover all the elements required to ensure a shooter will be competent and safe to be able to shoot at varying/changing distances beyond 200 yards. Therefore the simple maxim, with most deer legal calibres, is to zero either 1 or 2 inches high at 100 yds and the fall of shot will be within MPBR at 200 yds and on target, hence the distance restriction on the SSC.

:) But I use a scope at 200 yards and it won't fit in the space between me and the computer!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway less about the goat's ring if you don't mind. It lowers the tone!!:coat:

David.

I don't think you get a lot of points if you shoot it there...

Hello Klenchblaize. I'm trying to make this an efficient use of my limited range time. Presumably the BSRC range will be open too on 8th September? I'm trying to see whether I could test reloads for the drilling and do the competition on the same day... And then I may even shoot the fox or something with any leftover test rounds! Add an element of randomness to the event. Like in real life.

Drat and double drat...and I especially acquired an NRA Affiliate SSC from MDRC in order to attend this year...

But they also serve,
who man the stand,
for the BDS,
at Frampton Country Fair.

I hope the day goes well for you.

Alan

A club range near Oldham is running this course of fire in the afternoon of Sunday 8th Sept. The scores (with the shooters' consent, and if they're shot with the right kind of rifle) will be submitted to the BSRC.

There might be some places available for (FAC-holding) visitors - so if you're within striking-distance and you fancy a go, please drop me a PM.
