Ok folks, so an update - apologies it's a long one. If you don't want to read the full post then all you need to know is don't touch this with a bargepole!!
I’m one of the folk who signed up to the syndicate - long before it was advertised on here.
I wasn’t asked for a deposit to view the ground as others subsequently have, and had a good look around on my own before committing. There’s not a lot of cover and it’s mainly pasture and sheep. But I was assured the cull target was 35-40 across 4 guns and it’s very close to Chatsworth - so there could be deer in the area. Vermin included and the ground is crawling with bunnies. Plus I was told a walked up game syndicate was being set up on the ground and a day would be provided for the deer syndicate folk to meet each other. My main concern was whether there were actually any deer on the ground, but I know you need to spend a bit of time before you really get a feel for that. I've shot unlikely looking areas that really hold deer - but if I'd had to bet my mortgage on it, I'd not have said this was one of them! However, it was very local and I reckoned it was worth a try for a year.
I handed over the money and then weeks went by with no access to ground, despite repeated requests and written permission provided. Always a different excuse. The real warning for me was the lack of communications and random lies (“I’m working in London and no mobile signal”, “I work away and not allowed my phone for 2 weeks at a time” - I work on the most hazardous site in Western Europe and I can still access a phone or a computer for emails!). Or ignoring messenger posts when he was actively online. And the biggest red flag - he wouldn’t actually call me or give me a mobile number despite asking on loads of occasions.
I started to do some digging and it wasn’t pretty. I tracked down the landowner (not easy - an investment company) and the lads running the syndicate hadn’t signed a lease on the ground at the point they’d taken cash off folk and provided written permission (although discussions were apparently ongoing). I had various SD members kindly PM with their thoughts and knowledge on the ground in question - which backed up my view that their are few (if any) deer on the ground. And recently one of the syndicate owners has been on a legal FB group asking for help as they feel they have got a poor lease. I also found the 3 other syndicate members (2 x SD forum members) all in the same situation and asking for cash back. We’ve been in touch over the last few weeks keeping each other informed about what’s going on as we all tried to get our money back. So the comment above that “all our members are happy and are actively shooting the ground.” is an outright lie. And i would bet my mortgage no one has shot a deer on there yet!
I’ve now had my cash back, but it wasn't easy. I've been fobbed off with every excuse in the book and it was only when I started to get quite full on, with threats of the Police and legal action did they actually start replying to my messages. The cash was slowly drip fed to me over the last few weeks, with the last of it paid just now.
If Claytonl2010 chooses to post a response on here then he’s entitled to do so. I’m not getting into an internet ****ing contest so won’t be replying any further to the thread. I’ll let folk make up their own minds. I just wish the other lads well in their efforts to get their cash back and have shared all the info I can with them.
