Muntjac is nice venison. I broke one up last weekend most now in the freezer.
a good size one has to be worth 15 or 20 gbp.
Not to a game dealer.

What business is it of yours if he’s a pro or recreational ?So you are or were a professional deer stalker then?
If not it is just a hobby, the same as it is for 80-90% of the folk on here!
That's a big beast with a larder weight of 64 kilos.Saw what I thought was a big buck shot last week and was only 55 kilos larder weight. There is a photo of it in a post GAP 180 shot by Solvi .good morning, today i dropped off at the game dealers the following, one fallow 64 kilo clean chest shot, one 6 kilo muntjac chest shot clean,5 rabbits ,received £81.45 ffs.wont even cover the fuel cost for the day! i think its time i put my feet up and let some once else take over. no more out before dawn /home after dark/ out in all weathers .dont get me wrong i do love my stalking but the costs of just getting out there and then being ripped off by the game dealer is just too much.

And you’re the taxman are you .......Only that he put it out there that it is not a hobby, and never has been but if not a hobby and he's not a pro I wonder what stalking is to him.
He is on a pension so is retired which means he either worked as a professional stalker or did something else as profession which makes it a hobby and with only 2400 acres I would guess it is still only a hobby otherwise I wonder if he declares it to The Revenue as he has now confirmed that he does it to supplement his income.......
Nope, but that would make it less of a hobbyAnd you’re the taxman are you .......
And what does it matter if it’s a hobby or not ?Nope, but that would make it less of a hobby![]()
And what does it matter if it’s a hobby or not ?
Good for them but this lad doesn’t want to give up his land so I guess that’s unfortunate for those people ....Because very few people derive income from a hobby. And there are also plenty out there who would be happy to take on the hobby at a loss.
There will be an expert on here shortly to sort out this and all other worldly problems. He's just got to finish his church sermon first.![]()
I'm sure you're like me and you know there are experts and then there are the real experts. You've heard about me then Pat.![]()
There probably be another one along very soon.
Ah, but how did you know I was writing my sermon?I'm sure you're like me and you know there are experts and then there are the real experts. There probably be another one along very soon.

Instant experts probably know more than some of the old school on here to be fair Jimbo. You can easily tell the ones that know bugger all as they usually start their posts with "I've been doing this for 30, 40 , 50 or even 60 years and then proceed to totally embarrass themselves by making monumental cock ups! You've seen the threads I'm sure! I can only assume that half of them only go out once a year so I guess in theory they're not actually lying?Very true , however if I pack in that could potentially leave my land being taken by one of the instant expert brigade on here .... the thought of them wandering around with a firearm under loose supervision doesn’t bear thinking about ....

Ah but its only a hobby for some, for many its a business.Because very few people derive income from a hobby. And there are also plenty out there who would be happy to take on the hobby at a loss.
