I want to export some antlers to the UK and I can't find anything either on this forum or any UK government website that specifically states antlers. Ie bone, skin, meat, sperm etc. but not antlers. Anybody imported antlers before from a non EU country and if so was it by mail and was any paperwork required other than the usual declaration of non dangerous goods?
thanks

I know this was a while ago but I have just shot a Whitetail buck in the US and would really like to post it home in the form of a European mount. Do you have any info as google searches at the minute only seem to talk about future bans on trophies and the Gov website Information is hard to understand and apply!? Any help on how you (or anyone else) managed it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Get all the flesh off the skull. Peroxide it. Scrub all the soil off the antlers. Then send it during the Christmas rush. Declare it as antlers and see how you go.

There are zero replies and zero help from anybody on this forum so you are on your own.

Aww I don’t know, I still have faith in SD. It’s maybe just not an every day problem.

But thanks for your help anyway, your advice does sound like the most hassle free way of doing it but at the same time I don’t want to end up in trouble with customs officials if I can avoid it.

With several million parcels coming through at Christmas the worst they can do is hold it up until you get the paperwork. The best is that is goes straight through like it did for me. Nice buck by the way.

Here he is! My first male deer and he has ten points (one broken) so that’s why I would like a wee trophy.

Firstly, nice whitetail! Your first and the start of a whitetail addiction!

I have done this a few times with whitetails. It is far easier to clean it out there while you are there and bring it back with you. It is not a cites species, so providing it is clean of adhering flesh etc, it can he sent as standard mail, but include in the box a description of what it is, i.e. whitetail deer, latin name, which state it was shot in and if it was with a tag in your name, the details of that. Not essential, but may help it leave the country, as often animals belong to the state.

Your problem is couriers, my experience was Canada Mail will happily transit animal parts, little did I know it would be passed over to parcelfarce, who do not handle animal parts. Although they did indeed 'clear it' by the letter of their farcical rules, if they find an animal part they can destroy or send it back to the sender at their discretion. More and more couriers do not do animal parts, so do your research. Its much better to get someone to bring it over for you on a plane if you know someone doing a trip and just get it sent internally through the us to that person.

As per my reply above, if its clean and does not have flesh on it, it is fine.

Thanks for the help men, really appreciate it. I’ll do a bit of research. The Christmas thing is a bit of a blessing hopefully!

It’s probably very unlikely but with diseases like CWD aim the states would it not be best doing it via a taxidermist? I know it’s easy enough to clean up a skull but maybe they treat the heads or sign them off for export? Only a thought though

The Pom took two sambar heads home,Irish mate took one and the Swede mate took one,all walked through customs like they were carrying a baby.

Slightly worrying to think that customs officials can't tell the difference between a deer's head and a baby! I mean, it must've looked bloody obvious wrapped up in a shawl with a pair of antlers stuck out the top!
