Metropolitan Police officer arrested

A Metropolitan Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of her kidnap and murder. He works in Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command and is armed as part of his job.
Phew!! his house where he was arrested is just down the road from where I lived in Deal.
Normally Deal is a very sleepy backwater.

His identity is all over the papers this morning.

That said.

I prefer to let the wheels of Justice grind on, and let the investigation take its course without comment from the side lines.
Aye, if he is later found innocent then the damage, and impact on his life, caused by press will be massive. I think it’s best not to name people in this way until formal charges are bought (at least).

But to contradict myself a little - That being said the police seem to have some reasonable level of evidence given the locations and actions being taken.

They never considered that with Cliff Richard........

...when I heard a policeman had been arrested I wasn't even surprised which just measures how much my opinion of the police has sunk over the years.

Bold thing to reference what one man, may or may not have done, against the actions of every Police Officer in the land.

I never damned any section of society, for any offences an individual may, (or may not have) committed.

At worst, it is prejudice (in the truest sense), and at its best, it is lazy and demonstrates a lack of rational process.

Or perhaps it is a culmination of watching over the last 50 years repeated cases of police misconduct not being pursued and many policemen escaping censure by taking early retirement and living comfortably on their pensions after people have suffered hugely because of said policeman's actions.

David.

So you are not surprised to hear that a police officer has been arrested for a horrific murder as your opinion of the police is so low?
As a ex cop of 30 years with my wife and son in law still serving, I am of the opinion that your comment portrays you as an ignorant, offensive bigot.

The saddest thing, after the death of a young woman, is that when I heard a policeman had been arrested I wasn't even surprised
Sadly, you're not alone. I certainly don't hold with the view that the police force(s) in general are to be criticised for the actions of a few, but I certainly believe that the trend for inclusiveness, political correctness, and (dare I say it?) across-the-board equality has a lot to answer for. Sure, in principle those concepts are worthy and laudable; in reality though, I think they merely open the doors to those with less-than-worthy qualities that perhaps would be weeded out earlier with a more stringent recruiting process . . . . .

Healthy debate brings out uncomfortable truths on both sides.
You only need to look on social media on a daily basis to watch the police fail miserably with basic interactions with the public.... disturbing to say the least... but equally as are some of the mongs that bait them. Perhaps some remedial training wouldn’t go amiss in some aspects of policing across the entire force. Inturn confidence in day to day policing policy would be appreciated by the general public. But unfortunately the constant re enforcement of failure shows and demonstrates inadequate leadership at all levels. Not just the police though.... many public services show the same trait so it’s not unfair that persons in public service are scrutinised and critiqued where necessary. To assume that we are all perfect and infallible is part of the normal condition and to react defensively to any form of criticism is also perfectly normal. When life affecting decisions are made by persons in authority then it’s only correct they are held to account...... firstly as individuals then if needed as an organisation wether it be the police MOD NHS or councils or politicians and so on......just saying like.

If these issued aren't aired then nothing can be done for either side of the argument since neither is fully known.
The police are meant to represent the public they serve - there will always be a few criminals amongst them and to deny that is to deny the truth. Many serving officers will give of their best everyday and they deserve praise - many do not. Some are shirkers, some are arrogant and bring the worst to the job. I, too, used to feel the police were the best of the best, just my opinion but I dont believe that now.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Or for those without an understanding of Latin
Who will guard the guards themselves

The other one that springs to mind
The price for peace is eternal vigilance

This is also a two way thing.
I wonder how many of the gun club members knew or had an inclination as to the seriousness of Thomas Hamilton issues but weren’t willing to make either a complaint or highlight the issue?

Well said, I was going to reply to them but couldn't have put it better than your reply without resorting to referring to them by suitable words that I probably shouldn't! I wondered when this thread would bring out the usual police hating bigots. I also did my 30 and find these people spoil a great forum.
