Well, I tbought this is could be an interesting one.
I find gralloching Munties to be a pain. Cos they are so small and clearing out the anal passage in particular is difficult.
I think if you can gralloch a muntjac then everything else is a walk in the field.

Is it just me?

I mostly shoot Roe and they are nice and small and easy to manoeuvre, and gralloching is really quite easy as all the internals seem to separate easily with little effort.

I also shoot a few Red each year. I always find them just harder. Heavier to manoeuvre and then everything just a bit tougher.

The one that gets up and runs away with your new custom knife poking out the front of its chest ! Yeah I have had recounts from two customers ffs check the blink reflex! lol
Seriously its the heaviest in the worst situation , you try and turn them and they roll back etc . Ends up like trying to fix a land rover when its stuck up to its axles in mud ! Got not a lot to do with species imo just size and location

I love gralloching munties, it takes me the best part of a minute. Clearing out the anal passage is easy, even with my long bladed Garron.

What I don’t like gralloching is roe in winter coat...

Nowt like gralloching a big red stag to test the lumbar region.

I can only assume the folks voting muntjac have never attempted this 😂! My last munty I put a stick between hocks and performed a suspended in about a minute, I’d love to see that on a 100kg red.

How do you deal with a MJ buck with a bladder ready to burst as it can be huge....cutting the BP with a long knife their bladder is quite high up...

I don't have roe but don't find any of them hard just some are bigger...

100kg red with the gear to suspend it, under 10 mins on the ground gnats cock under 15.

I wish I had fallow, then my life would be a lot easier!

Species doesn’t make too much difference - though I agree the lack of a tail on roe can be annoying.

Winter v summer coat and clean v dirty shot make much bigger differences to the experience.

And the biggest difference is how long it’s been lying before you start. I absolutely hate having to do them if they’ve been lying for over half hour - a lot harder to open up without nicking the rumen.
