First Aid Kit?

Yes I get that but it would have been a whole different senario if he had been hit in the leg by an expanding bullet even an injury in a limb is unlikely to be survivable the trauma is too great.
We had a case a few years back when an estate stalker was shot at short range by a client they were crawling in to a shooting position "when the rifle went off" the bullet entering the stalkers buttock and exiting at his shoulder on the opposite side against all the odds he did survive a one in several million chance his survival was put down to the fact that the bullet didn't expand whether that was a freak or the fact tnat the shot was at point blank range.
There is a vast difference between being shot by a solid bullet and an expanding one the intention of expanding
Ammunition is that it will be fatal..
Of course I agree if youare in that situation you will do what ever you can to help and hope for the best.

But you can only carry so much stuff with you I know this from my experisnce in Mountain rescue on a rescue all team
members had their own personal first aid equipment pretty basic a few bandages a bit of Kramer wire to make a splint
a couple of slings etc. some would have more than others , we also had a dedicated first aid rucksack that went on
rescues this was a large rucksack and packed with everything we might need . We had to take it in turn to carry it was just to heavy for one man to carry the whole time.
My point is that you can't carry enough for every eventuality so it will always be a compromise yes you can have all the
gear in your truck but how much good is it in your truck it needs to be where the casualty is ok if the truck is a 100 yards from wbere you are sitting in your high seat or a couple of hundred yards across an arable field.

If stalking in the Highlands or even in some large forestry blocks you can be several miles from your vehicle or sven
from vehicular access for a first aid kit to be practical it needs to be able to be carried on your person.
As it will always be a comprimise I would rather carry stuff that will do the most good in the most likely to encounter
situations.
There was a client who shot his guide in the New forest recently in the leg at close range with a .308. He survived. A limb injury even with expanding ammo is eminently survivable especially if a tourniquet is at hand.

So what’s glaringly obvious is a missed opportunity for one of the traders on here to offer a ready made first aid kit bespoke for stalkers, come on someone pick this up and run with it !!!!
All said and done a decent no frills kit would be an excellent accessory to offer with any rifle package?
Sikamalc, Thats one for the SD shop if ever there was something

Daniel Baird foundation

The above is a charity, they are trying to get their trauma kits into the sort of places where kids hang out (and fight/ stab each other), they sell a number of trauma kits
This is a fantastic idea.

However, I have been to enough shootings/stabbings/assaults, where the friends/family/associates of the individual assaulted, are standing about screaming at the Police/Ambulance/First-Responders and doing nothing practical in the way of First-Aid. Laterly, they would all be happy digging out their phones to "film" the incident - not all used it to call for assistance. With Amublance crews now forced to wear "stab" jackets and body-cam, then I cannot help but silently weep for society.

I wonder if First-Aid could be taught in schools? Useful for those who actually attend...

It is a tragic state of affairs and I do not have the answers.

I don’t think you should be allowed to leave school until you have first aid training. It should ideally be mandatory for every citizen. If it was just a standard thing that everyone did, then it would be second nature to help in those situations.

Whilst sympathetic to the idea behind it, I’d urge a little caution when it comes to suggesting that any kind of training should be “mandatory” for every citizen.

Politicians would, I’m sure, come up with a whole tranche of subjects that they prefer to see placed ahead of first aid training.

No better way to manipulate the masses…..

I think I probably mean morally mandatory. Like the vaccine but without the having to inject stuff into your body.

Just did a EFAW+F course and it was made apparent a tourniquet and celox type of first aid are used in a major arterial bleed scenario and needs to be administered in ~2minutes or you bleed out. If you send someone back to the car even just 5min away for the kit you either did not need it in the 1st place or you are a goner.

Best carried on person....
And with the packaging removed in advance..

Best place for a CAT tourniquet and Israeli bandage is a proper Army Surplus shop ('Walk This Way' in Coldstream is fabulous).
Well my order just arrived to day.

It was a wee bit delayed, because they were waiting of a new supply of the MK IVA First aid pouch.

All as promised and to my utter delight, the package include two free "Coldstream" postcards and more importantly four random sweets (two chews and two hard toffees actually).

Win all round. Nice folk to do business with as well.

Thank you again caberslash - good recommendation.

If you ever get the chance, visit their shop.

They have a free yet excellent mini museum downstairs!

I am heading north at the end of the month to the Isles, and then Sutherland, so could use it at a pit stop.

Now that I know they have sweets...🐷

Just done the same course.Quite sobering when given the bleed out time from a major arterial bleed.I now carry an Israeli bandage, tourniquet and Celox in a belt kit.no good in the pickup if it a mile away.

I would recommend you contact Stewart Richardson at CA First aid. He teamed up with Lomo (I think - a Scottish firm) to make up a ready to purchase first aid kit. He runs EFAW+F courses. Think from memory the kit was 90 quid ish and comes with all sorts of fancy trauma kit, cellox, CAT-T, gauzes etc.

I bought a decent first aid kit off Amazon well reviewed circa £30-40 green it looks the part but there is lots of stuff in it that I am not sure how I would use them (All the gear and no idea springs to mind) On our regular trips to west coast Scottish Red Stag stalking an ex military guy used to come with us, he carried a “proper” medical kit including a saline bag/drip set up, he also had the training that went with it, fortunately/unfortunately none of us every had an accident so we could see him in action. I do need to spend some time and go through the kit I bought and familiarise myself with it all, including Reading The Instruction Booklet ( Surely not I hear you say)
