archery black bear, spot and stalk!!

Realy enjoyed reading your posts
It must take some nerve to get that close to a bear and shoot it with a bow
What is it you do in the oil industry
Regards
Ian

Not sure if you mean me or Dan, Ian. I started out cementing, testing and running tools for Dowell Schlumberger, back in 1977. Went into sales and marketing in 1981. After the 1987 slump I went back pumping concrete for BJ in India and a year later was picked up by a pump company. Been consulting in pumps and valves sales & marketing till recently (2003) since when I have been doing a mix of some consulting work for a special steel company, casting for Oil and gas equipment. When not doing that I have an interest in a hunting outfitter's lodge in RSA. I am at most of the shows this year. Come and say Hi.

God, if i could find a teaching job in Canada i'd emigrate in a heart beat!

should be work for a teacher I would of thought.
time to start applying!
you could be hunting in the biggest wilderness in the world.
good luck and a happy new year dan

Ordered my bow today Dan. Buying it from a friend who is Limb Saver Pro Staff. It's a Limb Saver DZ 32. 60lb draw weight. Comes with all the whistles and bells for the bow. Have ordered Sabre Maxx Broadheads.

Happy New Year when it comes Dan.

hi

sounds great 60# draw weight is perfect for canada,

sabre max broadheads, are they fixed blade or mechanicals?

treat yourself to a archery rangefinder as well which is invaluable, get 1 that compensates for inclines
I have the nikon archers choice , which im real pleased with, its easy to use just point and read the distance.
unlike some of the otheres. it was a couple of hundred $$ on ebay new.
happy new year

Sabremaxx are fixed broadheads Dan. http://www.ospsabermaxx.com/archery.asp They have a circular ring/blade around the base of the head which increases the initial entry wound chanel. I was just going to use my Leica CRF 1200, but I will take a look at the one you suggest. When the E-mail thread alert came through, I was just reading up a bit on Canadian Black Bear. Happy New Year to you and yours Dan.

canada is in my opinion the best hunting/fishing destination in the world bar none.
its a huge wilderness with healthy game numbers and wonderfull scenary.to enjoy
it can be a chalanging place to hunt, what with the huge areas, but when you finally find your quarry you know youve earned it.

cheers dan

hi schwarzwild
the peace region in bc has wild free ranging bison and very healthy elk numbers.
and anywere there is game animals the wolves will not be far away.
google northern bc hunting and you should be able to find many outfitters.I cant recomend 1 as I dont personally know any
cheers dan

i would love to try for black bear i took up archery 2 years ago ive yet to bowhunt its illegal over here
im shooting in africa after afghanistan but will then look to bowhunt im just put off by your tag system i dont fully understand from what i believe its like a lottery
you are very lucky to live were you do our deer stalking is jealously guared by greedy men who sell it for extortionate prices and often at the exspense of the deers welfare
let me know if you need an adopted brother

Don't be put off by the tag system. It doesn't operate everywhere for International hunters using an outfitter. I and seven colleagues are off to Newfoundland on Tuesday next. Two black bears each. Four of us will use a bow. Where are you going in Africa Gr1ffer? Three of our our party are from RSA and I will be there for most of July (RSA). Come back from Afghanistan safely.

hi griffer

bc only has the lottery system for grizz and bison , and certain species in certain areas where the numbers maybe sensative to harvest.
example goats in certain ranges with small populations. But there is other areas were goats are in healthy numbers and not on lottery.Black bear are open to all resident hunters.
As a non resident the lottery will not afect you in bc.
good luck dan STAY SAFE !

It looks a good place to hunt bears!

From what I read Dan, Newfoundland bears match the size of any aea for black bear.

I hope I get back to tell you how it went!
