First Aid Kit?

I bought a decent first aid kit off Amazon well reviewed circa £30-40 green it looks the part but there is lots of stuff in it that I am not sure how I would use them (All the gear and no idea springs to mind) On our regular trips to west coast Scottish Red Stag stalking an ex military guy used to come with us, he carried a “proper” medical kit including a saline bag/drip set up, he also had the training that went with it, fortunately/unfortunately none of us every had an accident so we could see him in action. I do need to spend some time and go through the kit I bought and familiarise myself with it all, including Reading The Instruction Booklet ( Surely not I hear you say)
But was he current? Skill fade is a thing despite training.

I get your point but in the company he was in on the hill we were 17 HMR’s compared to his 500 Nitro Express on the lifesa front in both knowledge and kit

Saline and an IV giving set are a waste of time and very heavy to carry. The only use really is washing crud out of an eye and you don't need a 1L bag for that...

If someone is having a major haemorrhage IV saline makes things worse by diluting clotting factors and overriding the innate hypotensive response.

Also one has to question his source for IV NaCl and the governance for administering it. Given that it is prescription only.

Just did a EFAW+F course and it was made apparent a tourniquet and celox type of first aid are used in a major arterial bleed scenario and needs to be administered in ~2minutes or you bleed out. If you send someone back to the car even just 5min away for the kit you either did not need it in the 1st place or you are a goner.

Best carried on person....
I carry mine in a vac sealed bag in my pocket without fail.

One year old topic, but not aging
Any advice please what military surplus store sells good UK medical kit? Looking around, but it seems it all gone to the east…
I wanted to buy a couple- one to carry and one for training

i get my kit from canterbury first aid at hersden, I just take it over and they go through it all to be compliant and change any OOD gear at a good price they made my first box up

Just as important, is ensuring someone knows how to use everything in the kit. Over here, there are several vendors that sell everything from a personal "ouchie" first aid kit, to full up trauma kits (quik clot, suture kit, etc.).

Everyone should know how to use a tourniquet these days. With the advances in treating oxygen deprived tissue, any significant wound to the extremities should almost immediately be tied off. Let the surgeons deal with restoring the tissue; the important thing is to stop the bleeding as quickly as possible.

JMTCW...

ETA: FWIW, most of our medical savings plans allow for the use of those funds to procure first aid kits (tax free money). Not sure if that applies to those in the UK, but that explains why we probably have so many options over here.

There are plenty of companies providing kits. Especially in the west of England on the welsh borders...

Superglue is a must.
I do carry celox and the bandage is better than granules. Robust scissors for clothing also.

I tell anyone I train, or offer to witness for, that prevention is better than cure. Get cutproof gloves and a wristlet-and wear them ! It can save tendons, digits and bleeding out if you slice through an artery.

You may also consider wearing safety glasses. Do not work with a knife at heights near face(eyes) or neck. Do not force anything.

Bitter experience.

Also worth investing in real life trauma first aid training, not just EFAW+F.

Thanks, but I want the actual UK army issue medical kit, not a copy. I find kits, but without tourniquets... Or I am searching somehow incorrectly? I googled for "UK army medical kit" and "British Army IFAK" - don't see anything marked as genuine army surplus kit...

Just buy a CAT separately and stick it in your first aid kit.

What makes you think there is an ‘army issue’ kit? An israeli bandage and TQs are issued to troops and kept on person but its all an individual choice as to what to take except on ops when its carry a minimum of two.

Team medics have a kit, and its drawn from a collection of sources, and the blokes that do this for a living work for organisations that have contracts in place to purchase commercially for the absolute best gear.

When I did my team medic ‘lite’ course I learnt a lot that would never be touched on in an EFAW +F course, which in itself was a good course. You need training to use this gear effectively. Learning how to look for hidden wounds, applying appropriate pressure and what kills quickly - the time to learn is not during an emergency.

Other outlets available but you will get genuine gear.

If you contact a medical training consultancy - you will get assured answers and solutions for your needs.

The SD massive is a great resource, but in your case I would be looking for professional advice from practitioners.

Can anyone recommend a decent first aid kit to keep in my truck? I’m thinking trauma kit for chainsaw or gunshot wounds type of stuff. Celox and tourniquets, that sort of stuff but in a ready to buy kit that I can mount in the cab somewhere?
First off book yourself on a course as its far better to have the knowledge in the field there and then than have all the kit and less knowhow 30 mins walk away .
I carry a smallish bum bag now after having an accident and having to improvise with a spare cloth from my gun bag and a roll of insulating tape .
Everyone needs a first aid kit in the truck but also carry when your out well away from the vehicle.
The most used item in mine is paracetamol and the chocolate bar . I hope i never have to use the Israeli bandage or packing ( a couple of tampons work great for the latter ).
The bag isnt big and it has a dual purpose as a rear bag for taking some of the longer shots .
Dont laugh about the chocolate when your stuck on the tops in the wind and rain with a busted Argo it keeps you from making rash or poor decisions

As many have already said, training course and learn how to use it.
Make your own kit using bits applicable to what you will likely come across. I usually keep 2 first aid kits knocking around, one with the generic bandage, thread, plasters the likes suitable for stitching me or the dog up and the other has different gear, usually associated with heavy blood loss so your torniquet, clotting agents and heavy bandages along with the usual gloves, saline and a couple of tick twisters!

I'd like to think I'd be semi well prepared to deal with pretty much anything I come across and also have the training to use it effectively

Thank you, you actually answered by question. I am thinking using them as they can customise the kit
I googled and found quite a few free training courses, so should be minimal costs
