Culling contractors

I know people who are contractors and shoot up to 30 and accept 10 wounded will ‘get away’ but the 20 are good stats and the 10 that got away are not reported
They would have to be if their ammo was issued by the Client and therefore were compelled to account for each round expended.

Something like my late Father was tasked with during the war which amounted to shooting wild dogs that required an empty case to correspond with a critter’s tale or you had some serious explaining to do!

I have lived in Scotland for nearly 30 years now I am not a local born in Englandshire, my family came from Aberdeen and Lossiemouth where my father worked for the Navy, so you can imagine that I have picked up a few very good sayings,
and the one that springs to mind is: your moos all broon..

Can't afford to waste copper ammo at the price it is now..

I have lived in Suffolk all my life. My family came from england. I've been to Scotland twice.

I think though that I can get the jist of that saying, and if I'm right I think it's apt.

Still. This has been an entertaining read.

That story can’t be right!! There’s no money in leaving deer on the hill that’s been shot!!! Contractors are mostly doing it for money so why would they leave them after being shot??The wrm would soon hear about it and you would be sacked on the spot!

Forestry blocks at night tired, time constraints in getting shot beasts back to larder, grallochs to bury and gps etc, of course mistakes are made, nature of the job and to be expected. But struggle with numbers mentioned
No way!! The contractors need the money so they won’t leave shot deer out on the ground. There’s a 12 hour window to get deer back into the larder so plenty time? You recover what you shoot then move on do you not ?

Gordon Slaughter from Fyne Game saw this coming years ago, he told me about the numbers of deer coming in, the badly shot, the fawns, etc. He said “tell you what, I’ll not be in business in 5 years from now because there will be no deer left!”. Guess what, business folded and got sold this year
If it folded what did he sell?

Absolutely correct.

Regarding red deer numbers twenty Years ago in the highlands, deer commission did periodic counts, set cull numbers for individual estates with sub groups formed and regular meetings held. For the most part hind cull targets achieved. So what went so badly wrong if indeed it has, as private sector did its bit?

Was agreeing with you, apologies should have been clearer

Was there not a thread posted on SD where a Professor had claimed that the figure of 1 million deer was completely under estimated..

To be clear I was doubting the figures a chap mentioned regarding deer not recovered by sub contractors by been diplomatic and could accept a odd deer lost through human error. It due to human error pressed on wrong post. In my opinion the numbers stated left by subcontractors is rubbish , hope all is now clear. Ps not suggesting untruths just wrong information passed on

Don’t know just curious as to what is the true situation in general across the highlands actually is, after all would imagine local variations. Thought it was generally accepted at one point numbers were not acceptable to some bodies. Have no axe to grind, but would seem according to some on here who live in that neck of the woods as I no longer do there’s non left! Ha ha.
