Maybe best to look on UK varminting as you are liable to get an idiot telling you they are not deer legal on here. 5k is a good budget should get you a cracking bit of kit. I like the pvs 14 add on. Like looking through green sunglasses on a sunny day

I love mine its a NVM14 from nightvisiongear.co.uk But for that money look at a starlight it has a detachable rear eyepiece.

Might be good, also if your in no rush and ask about a friend of mine in germany has a swaro scope where the add on screws on the front and is meant to be awesome

If you can find one a gen 3 maxi kite, I was lucky and found a brand new one after searching for over 18 months.

I never got on with the maxi kite....too high over the barrel. Defeats the object of flat shooting. They are great for what they are needed for, the enemy not seeing your IR but i'm not worried about foxes shooting back(yet)

I use a starlight archer its as good as any i have seen .think the gen 3 one i have is around
£2,500 my mate is after a new model they have ,he says its great
,worth giving Julian a call to ask

where are the firm based for one of them? seems to be a few to choose from just getting the right one.

Starlight NV are based in Manchester. Phone Julian on 01942884378. They have a web site. Also you could have a look at a Longbow. First class bit of kit, next step up from the Archer. Same firm.

Persoanlly if possible and legal, I would source from Gen 3 or better from the states - something like the D-760

Yup and try to get it fixed if it breaks.

Not that I am biased with my Archer and excellent service from Starlight who were very patient with me and the loads of questions I kept phoning up and asking.:D. OK maybe slightly biased, and never tried anything else.

wow 5k is alot that will put into some good mil spec gear personally i would just get a pulsar or an archer if its for foxes and vermin with a decent ir laser you will never know difference at normal shooting ranges with ir laser
trust me i use most current mil spec image intensifiers on a daily basis and i use an archer for foxes with a good ir there pretty impressive however ive heard good things from the pulsar digital night vision but cant vouch for that
put the rest toward a shooting trip you can have a good time on somthing a little special

Kris's advice is sound, you don't need to kick the backside out of your budget - and that is from a man who uses top spec in his day job.
Safe shooting ranges at night are limited, so the extra distance you might be able to buy wouldn't overcome the risks. Enjoy!

Don't bother with digital, there are limitations with it and you budget is sufficient to go with the Gen 3. If you were cash strapped then I would look at the digital.
Again the archer comes with the laser so you can identify a target out to 200/300, some say 400 yards and watch it come in to a safe shooting distance. (personally I have watched a fox walk in from 100 yards using just the archer on its own. Clamp it on to a scope and you can zoom in as much as the scope will. I haven't really had a chance to try it over longer distance but am pretty sure that it will work fine out beyond these distances
The difference between the cheapest archer and the most expensive is about 100 yards I am told.
I would buy the cheapest but then I am a known skinflint:)

gen 3 looks like could be the answer . can get some one to fetch one from the states but if it breaks its a pain getting it sorted out.

any body had any dealings with these?

I am still waiting for the guy at nightvision.com to get back to me about a 6 mag fixed scope for my 308. What calibre are you planning to use it on ajfab?
