Qualifications for Germany

I gather it's getting harder to get licences to hunt boar in Germany post Brexit. Does anyone have a view on whether the i.e. BASC Wild Boar certification would help?

TIA

Which licences are harder to get? I'm not aware of a specific boar-licence, and the general 'Foreigner's Hunting Licence' was still subject to the same rules as always when I got one last November.

The loss of the Euro Firearms Pass means one has to apply for an extra paper if bringing a firearms in, but that just an expensive nuisance, rather than actually hard!

Further thought - I use DSC1 to show a certificated level of competence which satisfies the State issuing authority. The Boar Certificate (which I've just looked up) seems to do the same for boar: so I'd imagine it would work as a demonstration of a degree of competence.

i needed a scheissnachweis certificate that is a shooting test on simulated running boar. I did it at Corinium range with Paul who is really helpful. The test itself is fairly straightforward if you can shoot straight. Once completed it was good to have a bit of coaching and confidence building practice.

I think that's an additional requirement in many (perhaps all) States, particularly if taking part in a moved-game shoot. If you need one, the documents used to gain the 'Hunting Licence' will most likely not exempt you from that need, as it has to be repeated annually.
The folk I go with generally do it in Germany, which gives a chance in addition to check rifles on the range after they been heaved about by baggage-molesters.

Come on over to Germany and do the Jagdschein course in one sitting of 2-3 weeks various schools have it on offer around 2.550€ (3 Wochen Intensiv-Seminar mit anschließender Prüfung in Hamburg oder Bayern) plus your accommodation on top at a local guesthaus (Pensionen beträgt nur 399,-€ für den gesamten Kursaufenthalt !)

To get my visitors Jagshein I have only ever needed my FAC and a copy DSC 1 and 2. Fundamentally you need to show proof of competence. You also need insurance and to have passed the shooting test. The latter, from memory, is three shots from a sitting high seat type position at 100m, and the at 50m three shots stationary and three running. You are scored, but the simple answer is you need to put them all into the kill zone - about size of a dinner plate.

Hi Pete
would I be correct in thinking that a scheissnachweis is simply a proof of shooting skills certificate?

A Scheissnachweis merely states that you have done your range time, not that you can hit the barn door. The K&K hunting guide service actually sent me a stamped one for my trip to the Hoenfels driven weekend a few years ago even though I had not done the range time, a worthless rubber stamp exercise IMO.

As said, there is no special license for boar. Just the standard Jagdschein or, in your case, Ausländerjagdschein. I once took care to get one for an American hunting buddy of mine. I needed to show an equivalent hunting license plus insurance proof document. The latter was easy to get. As equivalent American hunting license, I sent copies of his US tags for deer and turkey, which is in no way comparable with our Jagdschein - but it was ok at the end.
My understanding is, that it very much depends on the law of the respective state/Bundesland and - even more - on the actual authority granting the Jagdschein. This authority is located not at the state level, but at the Landkreis- or Stadtverwaltung (county or city administration). My impression was, that the person processing your application can at the end decide whether to grant or not the Jagdschein.
So, my advice would be: ask your contact in Germany to talk to the respective person at the local "Untere Jagdbehörde" of their county or city how to get an Ausländerjagdschein. Tell him to be very kind to this person, as he/she will be very important for you project to succeed.
The above is based on my own knowledge and experience a few years ago. I cannot guarantee it is still 100% valid.

They also had not informed me or the other who had all paid 850 Euros for the 2 day stunt that there had been wolves active and the previous years drive had been a washout. Over 70 hunters laid out around only 25 beasts each day and the K&K rep/guide was a young un whiles the boss of K&K was in the Dom Rep on his winter hols. He had the nerve to apologise for the lack of game and blamed the wolves quoting the last years flop and stating they would not be doing Hoenfels again. Refunds/reduction? sorry, nowt to do with me sir.
I saw the stand was in the Dortmund show in 2019 and told the boss what I thought of his running, water off a ducks back so be aware, as they do a you tube channel advert for their schiit.

But at the end of the day that Ausländerjagdschein for a year valid or a Tagesjagdschein only for 14 days valid that they issued will be accepted in all of the 16 states of Germany(I learnt that this is renewable for only so many time per year, I think it might be 6 times maximum).

I thought it couldn't hurt and I do think we owe it to the animal we intend to shoot to learn more about it so...I completed the BASC wild boar course this week at Rossett Hall lead by Chris Brooks. It was a good, interesting course, I think good value for money.
