First photo rabbits from heavy ground. Next original photo Next two are hares. When you see them close up regardless of colour the pelt fur is totaly diffetent. Rabbits have a smooth coat like a weasel or stoat. Hairs have a linty coat like a saluki. In all honesty trying to describe the difference is not easy but experience through looking at pictures and animals helps . I used to kill in the region of 700 rabbits a week and perhaps 50 hares so i have seen a few. I have caught European brown hares in three coat colours, brown black and white. All hares and rabbits have varied colour depending on topography but they like all animals have colour morphs as well .
Agree with a lot of what you say there regarding the coats, the images i posted weren’t meant to highlight the general difference between the two, i think everyone of us can tell the difference out in the field, they were to highlight the difference between the eyes. The hare having the large pupil and the characteristic amber iris whereas rabbits tend to be less pronounced.
The OP images clearly show a hare like amber iris and large pupil which is why i’ve stated it potentially could be a hare based on my experience of shooting and forwarding images to staff of dead hares on a regular basis.
At the end of the day we are looking at a pic of a small section of a whole animal, nothing to reference size etc so it isn’t life or death. I say tomata you say tomato.

It's as obvious as the nose on your face ...its a RABBIT not a HARE 👍

I cannot believe you arent listening to everyone ..I too have shot thousands of rabbits and hares and dont know how you can't see it ....need to go to Specsavers 🤣🤣

Rather than the ****ty comments educate me then, you slammed the door straight away, I have neither said it’s definitely not a rabbit or it’s definitely a hare, on first impressions it does look like a rabbit BUT in more detail to me there’s some things that err towards a hare.
Up to now, none has addressed the eye, now I’ve trawled trough all of my photos of rabbits I’ve sent to land owners and I haven’t found one that has an eye like the one in the OP’s images, large pupil and amber iris.
Do me a favour, study the eyes in the OP‘s images and then look at the images in the link and tell me what you think.

Look at these photos, one is your rabbit, one is op and other is from you link. and by the way pupil size is dependent on light etc. colour varies a little with topography and time of death etc. I actually think you were a rabbit in a previous life as your extremely good at diggingistockphoto-171282314-612x612.webp87B3B2F8-EB1D-4ED9-8278-7A4628E45748.webp20220609_215904.webp good at digging

Christ this is embarrassing....its a Rabbit end of.

Eyes arent all the same either ...I have shot rabbits with blue eyes on various occasions but they are still rabbits.

Just accept it's a Rabbit.👍

Exactly, my rabbit and the other one‘s iris looks nothing like as pronounced as the OP’s
After foxhunters poor attempt at educating me I’m still going young hare, the eye, coat and black tips are doing it for me, where do I hand my guns in?

Specsavers anyone.
I now know why they have hunter education in Europe and why the DSC course is a good Idea here.

We all know it's a rabbit 🤣👍
You cant educate some people.

Still wont accept that he is wrong 🤦‍♂️

IT IS A RABBIT 🐇🐇🐇🐇🐇
No ....that's a muntjac 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just thought I'd drop this in from the BASC quiz thread:
Animal ID isn't always straightforward, as you know from your shocking performance in the ridiculously simple deer/no deer quiz.

Cut the guy some slack. He's made some valid observations without stooping to ridicule.
No-one has yet responded with equally valid observations that prove beyond doubt that it's a rabbit.

7/8 was slip of the finger

Are you an idiot as well ....its a rabbit no need for discussion. I have been shooting rabbits and hares for nearly 40 years......I cant understand how it looks remotely like a hare.

Valid observations.......really ?

It's a RABBIT......FACT

A slip of the finger? Really
if you cant ID your quarry you shouldn't be shooting.

Anyway, I frankly don't care whether the photos are of a rabbit, a hare or even a guinea pig. What I do care about is that while @Pellet Pinger has stated quite rationally why he believes it may possibly be a hare, no-one else seems capable of responding in an equally rational and mature fashion to explain why it is, beyond all doubt, a rabbit.
Are you an idiot as well ....
As well as who? 🤔😁
