Hi,

Is anybody using the 100gr gameheads straight out the box and not reloading? Going to use them as a starting point on the new .243 and just wondered what your thoughts are on effectiveness etc. (mainly roe)

Thanks in advance

Yep
been using them for a long time, mine groups sub 1/2 inch lovely lively round, I think they are a bit quicker than some factory rounds but work very well, if I had to find a fault, hit a Roe or fallow in the shoulder it can cause a bit of internal run around damage, they do the job pretty well, overall brilliant round for deer or foxing, I shoot the same make in the 308 @ 123 grn and they are again really good can cause a bit of damage if the shot is not 100% side on

they group great in my blaser r8 .243. so much so that a friend dismantled one for me to find closest bullet style in order to replicate as best i could from reloading (i think they are basically a sierra 100gr pro hunter as dimensions are almost identical). To be honest the reloads i have managed to work up are only slightly better than what they produced out of the packet. Have shot roe and muntjac with them and as above they are reliable (clean kill in engine room with no run on out to 180m from my experience). Had one issue with a roe in cover where bullet seems to deflect down through chest cavity and exit low and broke front leg. Only one lung taken and the young buck ran on a little and had to be finished off. I would say thats was a freak incident as no other issue with these rounds.

1/2” groups from my sako 243 before I sold it but I probably shot 400 different rounds with unsatisfactory results before I discovered that was what the rifle liked.

Ive opted for a tikka t3x lite. Hopefully the rifle likes them, ill post my finding when i get the chance. Thanks for the replies

I've used them in a 20" Tikka T3 with sub MOA groups at 100m. Velocity was around 2800fps. Incidentally Federal 100grs Powershok shot almost identically.

Yes cracking bullets used them before I started reloading and would buy some if non reloaded great bullets for all quarry

I've tried them in my .243 and it struggles to get a 6" group with them.
My 30-06 on the other hand loves the 123gr gamhead under 1" if I do my bit.

I was told a couple of weeks ago by the pretty knowledgeable chap in my local gunshop ( usual caveats apply, but he does order their ammo snd components from the various distributors) that as sako are struggling to get reliable supply of the Sierra bullet they are now producing ammo with a different manufacturers bullet.
Might be worth noting batch numbers.

Their 100gr Gamehead is a good round on Roe took a good few with that bullet It's very effective on Roe deer,

My old A7 loved the 100gr Gamehead's, The 100gr seems to be easier to get hold of at the moment than the 90gr gamehead sp.

SAKO do a 90gr Sierra Gamehead Pro variant tried it in my 243 a couple weeks back 1/2" or less at 100yds impressive
shame its so hard to get hold of at the minute in the various cartridges they do it in.

Old thread but wanted to comment because I’ve just chronographed a 10 shot string .243 Sako Gamehead 100grains with an average velocity of 2,760fps. / 20 inch Tikka T3, chronograph 10 feet away from muzzle and mod. Box is just a guide with muzzle velocity at 2,969fps (24’’).
