Good day all.
Happy to have the opportunity to introduce myself.
My name is Werner...
Fanatical hunter and fisherman!
I moved here from South Africa with my wife about 4 years ago now.
We live in Berkshire around the Newbury area.
I come from a wildlife back ground and built, established and managed game reserves all around Southern Africa for about 15 years.
Wanting to start a family we figured that a move to my wife's home town here in the UK would be the best bet seeing that the wildlife industry is not very family friendly. (Not the sector that we were in anyway)
So amongst managing wildlife on a large scale I also had the responsibility of doing all the culling required. This would range from doing 50 to 2500 animals per year. I would be lamping Impala with .22 rimfire (legal in SA) to selectively culling buffalo and giraffe with my .416 Rigby.
However fun the larger calibres could be... I must say that my Sako .270 will forever be my favourite all rounder. (Not to spark any arguments)
So far I haven't managed to tick all the required boxes here in the UK to obtain my fire arms licence so for now I am happy to be doing a bit of rabbit and rat control for local farmers with the air rifle. I have completed my DSC 1 for now and planning to try and complete DSC2. (Covid put a bit of a stop to my plans)
For now, finding like minded people to surround myself with would be a win for me as the people that I have met in my area so far have sadly not been very welcoming.
Anyway...
Hope to meet some of you and share some ideas and stories.
Thanks for having me. (Hopefully)
