Hopeful new member...

Good day all.

Happy to have the opportunity to introduce myself.
My name is Werner...
Fanatical hunter and fisherman!
I moved here from South Africa with my wife about 4 years ago now.
We live in Berkshire around the Newbury area.
I come from a wildlife back ground and built, established and managed game reserves all around Southern Africa for about 15 years.
Wanting to start a family we figured that a move to my wife's home town here in the UK would be the best bet seeing that the wildlife industry is not very family friendly. (Not the sector that we were in anyway)

So amongst managing wildlife on a large scale I also had the responsibility of doing all the culling required. This would range from doing 50 to 2500 animals per year. I would be lamping Impala with .22 rimfire (legal in SA) to selectively culling buffalo and giraffe with my .416 Rigby.
However fun the larger calibres could be... I must say that my Sako .270 will forever be my favourite all rounder. (Not to spark any arguments) (:

So far I haven't managed to tick all the required boxes here in the UK to obtain my fire arms licence so for now I am happy to be doing a bit of rabbit and rat control for local farmers with the air rifle. I have completed my DSC 1 for now and planning to try and complete DSC2. (Covid put a bit of a stop to my plans)
For now, finding like minded people to surround myself with would be a win for me as the people that I have met in my area so far have sadly not been very welcoming.

Anyway...
Hope to meet some of you and share some ideas and stories.

Thanks for having me. (Hopefully)

Welcome. Sounds a very interesting story you have lived.
With your cv I’m surprised you haven’t ticked all the boxes yet. You realise dsc2 isn’t a requirement for FAC ? Albeit a very helpful thing to have.

Nor is DSC1 surprisingly enough.

Howzit from North Devon.

I deerstalk here in the U.K., some wild boar too, do vermin control for some local land owners, but have also been blessed to participate in cull work in Limpopo, EC and Namibia.

Wow... Hi everyone.
Didn't expect such a welcome ☺.
I originally come from the West Coast of SA. (Namaqua Land)
Spent the last 5 years prior to moving here in the lowveld (limpopo) area.
I was told before that the DSC's aren't needed but I figured that it can only improve my chances.
The only box that I haven't ticked is the all elusive "Land" one. (That wasn't a hint as I have read the rules)
I looked at syndicates but honestly the ones within reach of me is just to expensive.

Sadly in my area the general theme seems to be that everyone has a stalker on their land accompanied by the phrase "I haven't actually seen him in a while".
Enough to drive a man to drink!
I just keep at it in the hopes of success.

Oh... SA Shooter...
I'll try and figure out how to change my user name🤭..
Sorry about that one!

if you can do some paid stalks and keep some form of confirmation of the booking that should be good reason enough

Thanks
I'm looking into stalking opportunities for the upcoming months. I'll see what I can find.
As far as I understand they are still mot taking any new applications. Maybe someone here can correct me if i am wrong.
Might be a stupid question... would the firearms officer take my past experience into consideration all be it in a different country? Would a sort of "cover letter" be of any use? I have a few pictures somewhere as well I think.
I have tried a few times to contact the officer for my area to speak with them but haven't been able to get to actually speak to anyone.

Thanks for the suggestion though. Keep them coming if someone has some ideas for me... I need all the help I can get👍
