Best low light scope for stalking?

Another Schmidt fan here. I own Swarovski and S&B variable 50mm scopes. To my eye, the S&B is brighter glass. Swaro glass is a little bit green to me. I am told that this preference for one make is quite common. There are lots of Zeiss fans who swear that they see better through those.

You probably need to try and look through a few and see what your eye finds most palatable (excuse the mixed metaphor). But really, the advantages must be quite marginal between quality scopes. They're all good.

I've just splashed out on a 50mm S&B Polar T96, so that I can try and watch the video Caberslash posted above.

I’d be interested to see where people get the idea that a larger main tube diameter increases light transmittance. 🤔
I'd be interested to see the evidence that those people choosing a modern, efficient and highly accurate chambering have a low IQ...

Digital is spawn of the Devil for many also not legal everywhere but for last light you won’t beat the C50. I go out with a mate with one of the big Schmidt’s and we’ve compared them side by side at last knockings a few times and the difference is unreal.

I’d love someone to explain why a 34mm tube is a prerequisite for the ultimate light gathering scope.

Simply because with my tired old eyes I’ve found this scope to be perfectly clear and brighter than any other I’ve used in lower light conditions

Personal experience using number one eyeball

Nothing scientific

👍🏻

I know they are great scopes and I would have one if 34mm rings were available from my preferred manufacturer. I’m just not convinced the fantastic TRANSMISSION rating has anything to do with central tube diameter.

I stand to be corrected.

If you can see to shoot accurately when and where you want your on a winner, I use Schmidt, zeiss and swaro and they all work faultlessly, try them all as much as you can and decide, mate of mine has nightforce it shoots phenomenally well but for some reason i dont like it  Just try before you buy

i use a swaro 1-8 x 24 on my 204 until I swap it over to thermal when really dark and its a gooden, don’t be put off by size - glass, reticule and pin fd illumination are the key factors

Money does not necessarily equate with best, badge engineering can be deceptive.
Schott glass, German made, lifetime warranty, try an unfashionable Minox,
or Czech made Meopta for super light gathering.
I challenge anyone to shoot a deer with the big 4, that they couldn't shoot with one of these.
Er... does that make sense??
happy to make a compromise on the glass now to get the other mechanical stuff in a scope, like 100% tracking and no backlash, ability to hold zero on a trip to hell and back.
As they have all come on leaps and bounds regards the glass.

Tube size has nothing to do with light transmission, so no need to be corrected.
