I am trying to change over to copper for Roe and Muntjac. To date I have always used 243 Federa Power shok 80gn lead with excellent results. I have tried a couple of copper 243 makes at the range and in the field and I am not convinced. I have heard good reports of light (110gn) copper in 308 and would appreciate people experience?

I am considering a new 308 (mines shot out) but would like to know what twist rate i should be looking for? Is there a rifle out there (ideally left handed) that is suitable for copper and nato ball?

Thanks

What 243 lead free bullets have you tried? There are a number that in my experience are accurate and have excellent terminal performance.

I have tried Hornady 80gn and Winchester 85gn through a Tikka T3. The Winchester are more accurate but do have a lower POI.

I would give the Fox, Peregrine or Yew Trees a try. The Hornady GMX are an earlier generation and are a pretty hard bullet.

The new generation give good expansion and killing power without unnecessary wound damage.

I've got a 1:11.25 5r rifled 308, it was built for lapua scenar 155 (clover leaf), but it also shoots 136gn pereguins perfectly.

Don't forget a 243 will rebarrel into a 308 with no dramas.
