I have seen some pretty good sized reds in Austria, not 300 kgs but well over 200kg. They make the little hill stags look about the size of Shetland ponies.

A lot of the size is down to nutrition, or rather lack due to overgrazing.

Lovely Stag , yes there huge in Europe for sure , Me & A friend were lucky enough to hunt in Lithuania during the rut in September & both had very big stags both 300kg plus & they were not the biggest we saw . waiting on heads to come back to UK very soon .

I ask because if you hunted it free range in that country, at that trophy weight, and with that age estimate, I would have thought that your hosts would have let you know if it was a European Red or a Carpathian Red. The latter though both types have the same score levels for gold medals are recognised as being larger
