30-06 Too powerful for UK

What? So a .270 WCF with its Remington factory load of a 150 grain bullet at 2,850 fps or a .308 Winchester with its Remington factory load of a 150 grain bullet at 2,820 fps is OK but at .30-06 with its Remington factory load of a 150 grain bullet at 2,910 fps is too powerful?

All figures from Remington's own internet website.

Definitely more akin to the People's Republic of Jockistan, both in the in depth analysis of why one would need or want another similar chambering, and in the completely arbitrary application of the interpretation of HO guidance.

It sounds like something got lost in translation. I get that the .243 is NV specific but what’s the justification for having a .308 and a .270? Maybe the 30-06 was one too many deer rifles without a good reason (maybe there is one that wasn’t shared in the OP). I don’t agree with the restriction, but within the bounds of our current laws I can see how you would get rejected and the FEO made an offhand comment about Africa, which was then taken as the reason for rejection.

A friend has put in for a 30-06 for deer in the Uk, he has a 243 with NV, 308 and a 270. He has been told that to justify such a large calibre like that he has to prove he has booked a trip to Africa.
Tell the FEO to look at page 114 of the current Home Office Guidance on Firearms Law and he will see 30-06 listed along with a load of other cartrdiges as being suitable for use in the UK

Cheers

If you have a 308 and 270 what's the need for a 30 06 ??

These! Of which I have about one hundred. He may have a wish for ditto for fox control?

And the ability to use 200 grain bullets for heavy boar. And maybe the OP has access to large amounts of surplus .30-06 ammunition at dirt cheap prices. Although the large quatities of milsurp WWII US Gov't and UK ".30 Browning" that used to go through auction dried up mostly in the late 1980s.
