6.5 Creedmoor for fox?

I have a 6.5 creedmoor and currently use 127gr LRX and 143gr ELD-X for deer.

I’m going to start doing a bit more fox shooting at night. I could either load some 95gr V-Max and just keep using my 6.5, or buy a .223.

Does anyone have experience with the 95g V-Max or any other fox loads in 6.5 creedmoor? Is there any particular advantage of using a .223 over a 6.5 with suitable bullet?

IMHO a tad too much for the thin-skinned and lightly made up fox, also noisy for your neighbours. Last one I shot with the 6.5 and Sierra’s great Prohunter 120s pencilled straight through it - killed it though!
Get a good .222/3 and load 50/5gns VMax for it, quieter, no recoil and good out to as far as you will wish to shoot and beyond. Plus you will have two rifles instead of only one!

I agree with the other two chaps also. I have 6.5 CM but wouldn't waste the money ammunition costs these days when I reload my 223 for a fraction of the cost and it does the same job.

I use 95s in a Creedmoor, and with a P12 mod , isn't much louder than my 223.
The bullet doesn't cost much more than a 53g, and you can shoot further with it, and hits with a lot more authority.
If it does go though its usually in pieces.

It's certainly not overkill, and will likely cost about 30p more than 53s in 223 if you reload {per cartridge}

Any rifle will work on fox

Not sure how much your 223s are costing but S&B 140gr SP in 6.5CM are a pound a pop.
Nice and cheap(ish) depends on your homeload costs.

They shoot very nicely out of my Tikka. Expecting them to be average…. They are far from it.

They group well in my Howa 1500 too.

Took a CWD with them in December, nothing left of the shoulder on the exit, but dead is dead.
