Webley & Scott sportsman 3 shot 410

I think that as you can with the Mauser 98 bolt that you've got the striker and the white metal part that sticks out the back end of the bolt perhaps one full turn too far in. Or conversely too far out. So I'd gently try when holding the bolt in your left hand and using pliers grip the white metal part and see if you can pull it out further and the turn it to the left so that it is now held in that further back position when you release the pliers.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Hopefully a remedy will be forthcoming, saving you a trip back to the shop? I had the single shot version as my first shotgun, never knew they did a 3 shot? bought mine about 1961!

Thanks ES - I’ll have a look at which bit you mean this eve. I do think there is something like this going on.

Not just 3 shot but 3” cartridges as well, which was a pre request as no one seems able to get 2.5” at the moment! Gave the lad a bit of a wake up call, probably same kick as a 20b as the load is 19g! But he took it in his stride, good thing there is some weight to it.

A Webley bolt action was the first shotgun I ever used it was a friend's and when he unfortunately died at a very young age it was given to me. I almost never use it now but it has alot of sentimental value.

Bought a different one. Side by side, Uber lever thing. Son is very sad he doesn’t get to cycle a bolt anymore but tbh it’s easier to see if the gun is safe and whether the barrel is plugged with mud. I feel better. Thanks everyone for your anecdotes and ideas.

so it’s not a rifle or a calibre question.

I’ve just bought one of these for my 9yr old who loves it. But, we discovered quickly, the safety doesn’t work. It’s a sort of tab that you turn behind the bolt and it should lock it from firing. It doesn’t.

Having found an old manual it seems it should just automatically come on when the bolt is cycled. It doesn’t.

Does anyone have one and have any insight? Like is the bolt in wrong or something? This isn’t like the single shot where you turn the back of the bolt itself. If you have one you would know but otherwise it’s a random bit of kit!

We both love it but this will be going back to the gun shop and if they can’t work it out either we will need a back up plan. I’m hoping someone here can shed some light before I waste another couple of hours heading back to the gun shop.

Thanks in advance

Am new to this forum, but have seen this post.

I own a Webley Sportsman .410 and can confirm that the safety does come on when cycling the bolt!
Personally never found it an issue as becomes second nature that if you are quickly cycling a follow up shot, as soon as your trigger hand is back in position to thumb the safety down as target is acquired...
But I do have big hands so maybe that helps!

Out of interest, where did you find the manual for these guns?

Hi it went back to the shop! There was just an advert on something like fourten.org or similar which had a few bullets on. The lad liked it but I’m pleased he now has a shooter we can easily check he hasn’t plugged the barrels with mud! I also had a soft spot for it…

Hello, I have only just seen this post, my brother in law had the same problem on his Sportsman, it was one of the pins on the bolt, but I see you have returned the gun. can I please ask what you did with the manual? I am looking for a manual for mine as I need to take the bolt apart. Kind regards

Can I ask where you got the Manual from, and did you keep it? If somdo you want to part with it?
