Hi guys
My 13.5 year old cocker has the *****, vets checked her and says have these tablets for a week and she will be fine.
She finished them yesterday and tonight it’s like a cannon going off!
Any advice???
She was also put on chicken and rice diet.
Regards Dan

Ask for a bentonite clay or similar.

Very effective and admininstered orally.

My lab has made himself sick several times by going back and eating grallochs but he never learns!

She hasn’t eaten anything as she is always very close to me or the wife. I will try and get some tomorrow morning 👍
hope all goes well, my sister in laws spannel last week had the same, had 2 tablets twice a day vet said it was a gastric infection ??? that went through her for a week - come out like a jet, she is on chicken and kibble and nearly right as rain now after a week
good luck matey.

What were the tablets?

Check first in case your dog isnt suitable (other meds or health conditions) but imodium can be used.

May have to split the tablets in half.

The tablets are metrobactin.

I have stopped her food tonight but how long would you guys not feed her for?

I’d try Chappie tinned dog food, it’ seems to be really good for upset tummies. (Do not get the biscuit, just the tinned dog food on its own).

Then also get some pro-kolin (can buy a tube off Amazon) and give as directed.

My old lab suffers from the runs every now and again. Standard remedy is fast her for 24 hrs then feed small meals of boiled rice for 2 days then add cooked chicken until faeces start to form again then slowly reintroduce to normal feed. Do always check for blood in the mess and take to vet immediately if any seen.
Last time was two weeks past - the vet advised that the older they get the more likely to have the runs!

Put her on plain white rice and if desperate give her half an immodium. The vets won't like that because they can't sell you white rice or immodium. 👍

^^^ This is the simplest and best course of action. Cut out the chicken, feed plain rice only. It works every time, unless you have a serious problem.

The oral paste worked well when Chip had the bad runs, I asked about a second dose and you know vets!!
Like kids then Toby got it, Jane who worked in a different vets go me two more and it cleared up.

Feed the gut is the current thinking. Small amounts of highly digestible food - chicken, fish, egg, chappie (or the prescription diets). The thinking is that the food encourages blood to the gut to digest it, bringing with it white blood cells etc.
If she settled with the tablets and has started again, either there is residual infection/bacterial overgrowth or you started normal food too soon.

We feed sweet potato and chicken, boiled up and keep the water. Mash up and in bowl when cool, same for cooking water. Squirt of the prokolin paste as instructions and buy off amazon. Normally settles in a day or two.

Yup
None of the above
Not until you’ve completely starved the dog for a minimum of 24 hrs
Nothing but water.
Than light food.
Not tinned anything for a start.

I starved her for 24 hours, can’t see a vet until Monday evening!!
I have got some Pro Kolin and fingers crossed for an improvement!!

On the bright side the wife is home tonight so she can clean it up🤣🤣🤣🤣

So just an update, dog has been on some antibiotics and it’s really helping her, had scans and all ok. Slightly thickened intestines.
The vet prescribed a steroid. 2 days in and she is acting strangely and now her left leg has developed a weakness prednidale is the steroid. I’m stopping her taking it and see how her legs are!
Poor thing is still really happy and loves life. Just seems 1 thing after another at the moment.
