I don't doubt that it happened, but given the rather proactive stance of some officers and forces towards reducing the number of firearms in circulation it might be wise if FAC holders were to routinely refuse/withhold entry or access to their homes or vehicles without prior notification or warrant.
You’ve nothing to gain and possibly a lot to lose by inviting them in, so don’t do it.
That advice is the one precaution against losing your certs many of you routinely fail to follow.
Unless you’re absolutely certain that everything is absolutely as it should be, don’t admit police calling randomly to inspect your firearms and storage.
Even if you are all ship shape and squared away, get them to make an appointment anyway, allowing them entry on demand without prior notice seems to be encouraging some very bad habits to develop.
