The Guardian on deer numbers and the re-introduction of wolves.

Yes, the Times ran that a few months back. If you are a subscriber I suggest a bit of anyalysis for our City friends in the comments section...

The estimate is each wolf eats 15 to 19 deer per year. Let's say we have hungry wolves and they eat 20 each. We shoot what 300,000 deer per year ? So we need 15,000 wolves just to stand still. Where would you like your 15,000 wolves sir? Not in Bruntsfield or Islington would be my guess.

That is of course running with the Green nutters assumptions that the wolf will chase deer rather than eating sheep, horses, calves, dogs etc that can't get away.

More thick Greens ruining the lives of the country people while holed up in their city pads...

Good morning everyone, I hope what I have read is not implemented in your country, here the environmentalists have had the same brilliant idea to fight wild boars with the result that for the wolf, it is much better and easier to preface farmyard animals , a farm that supports itself with game, the moral of the story is that farmers have been brought to their knees, farm dogs and cats have disappeared, they have even arrived in cities like here in Rome, which prey and multiply in the first urban strip The project has drained a grant of 4 million euros from Europe and 1.5 million from the Ministry of the Environment to then subsidize a pool of pseudo experts who have done nothing for a decade now, with monthly salaries at six zeros for hypothetical scientific technical consultancies all failing, as usual in the lead ce wwf legambiente and other "environmental" associations that their purpose is only the banking environment I hope for you that this wicked project will be put aside also because it would lead to the closure of entire territories for years to ensure that they are not disturbed Best wishes 🤔

I have a solution for another ecological disaster, Monbiot, wolves.
I have another solution if they appear in this area and predate on livestock. It's called a 7x57. Also useful on Lynx when they kill sheep, which I know escapees did. I'm afraid the country has gone daft but that's what happens when you breed using defective people with no knowledge of wildlife to breed more idiots, which appears to happen on a more regular basis in these modern times.

Great insight into what actually would happen,
Thank you 😊

We brought wolves back in the Yellowstone Basin, now the moose and elk are taking a real beating, they breed like rabbits( wolves) and expand their range. Big mistake to bring them back. Control measures for the wolf population are brought to court

If it's not working in areas of wilderness that size, how on earth do these Disneyland idiots think it would work here.... Truly, it's so obvious to anyone, except it seems those hellbent on seeing a wolf just by popping on their expensive Cotswolds Outdoor gear and taking an hour's drive out into the country.

The one bit of the article I absolutely agree with is that in the UK it is just about impossible to get any joined up thinking amongst those who own the land. One wants to rewild and kill all deer, next door wants to protect deer and not entertain any shooting etc etc.

The vast majority of land in the UK is in private hands. Even where it is state owned is it still run as if it is in private hands.

The only real way to manage big game animals such as deer which really don’t care about man made boundaries etc is to manage them on an much larger scale across their natural ranges.

That takes joined up and cooperative thinking.

Something that very rarely happens in the UK, where the general sentiment is as long as I am OK thats all fine by me.
