Everyday Boots question

I’ve got two pairs of Meindl. A high pair for walking / shooting and a pair of their chainsaw safety boots (for chainsaw work obviously). The walking boots are fine. Comfortable and breathable. The chainsaw boots have got various stitching / sole issues though. Admittedly they get used in all weather from summer to snowy winters but still! I did look into getting them sent to Germany for a fox but the whole process seemed so arduous that it really put me off.
Don’t think I’ll be going down the Meindl
route again unfortunately

I would recommend didioto boots I’ve had Mendel and chameau and didioto boots too the lot , very comfy from day one and very hard wearing

Grisport Gamekeeper boots £130 on Amazon, absolutely the best value for money boots available. I was sceptical about them living up to reviews on here but they are very very good, comfortable, waterproof and durable.

My just over a year old Gateway boots are leaking like a sieve so tried a pair on in Tiso's last week and they were really conformable. Just ordered a pair at £119.99! from Mastershoe. got to be worth a punt at that!

I'm looking for a good pair of boots for the winter, they need to handle about 2hrs of dog walking every day in proper wet, muddy conditions through fields and woodland. I can handle wellies for a short time, but they don't give me the support I need, and tend to rub after a while. I currently have a pir of Jack Pyke Hunters boots, but I'm not very impressed so far, they seem to be coming apart after just a few months and have started to let some water in. If I can't return them, I'll keep them for dry days to give the better ones a rest.

Quality is more important than price...but obviously, value for money is a major consideration. At the moment, I'm looking at:
  • Meindl dovre extreme
  • Crispi Wild Evo GTX
  • Le Chameaux LCX High 12"
  • Hanwag Tatra ii GTX - (Although I think these will be too low cut for really muddy fields)
Any other suggestions or recommendations?

(By far the most comfortable boots I've ever had are my Magnum Strikeforce 8's, but I think these are really designed for urban use and have almost zero tread, so are useless in the mud and are not the most durable. I do wish they would do a brown version though, so that I don't look like a policeman!)
I’ve only ever had brandecosse or Mendil. Of the two the brandecosse boots are more comfortable and the build quality is far superior the the mendils.

Altberg, hand made in the UK, great customer service and do every size and width you can imagine, along with custom sizing. Hard to go wrong with them

My motorbike boots are Altberg

Had them for years and they are superb. Really well made.

I wear Altberg defenders all day every day, dog walking, shooting shopping, gardening and working on the house.
realised a while back that it is better to have a few pairs on the go at once then i can leave them to dry out naturally, when required, before a clean up with the recommended wax-oil. (think its called Leder Gris or something)
latest pair are still going after 2 years.
you can pick new ones up relatively cheap on the bay or vinted.

its all about what fits your own particular foot shape, preference or gait.
have had loads of different brands and and price bracket boots over the years, these have worked the best for me.
They may not be the best for everyone, that's life.

FYI Harkila were the worst pair i ever tried, supremely comfortable at first, yet fell apart very quickly.

Currently running 3 pairs
Altberg gamekeepers - awesome boots. Really comfy and really waterproof.
Meindl island pro - even more comfortable and very well made. Not as supportive on mountainous terrain as the altberg but easier to wear everyday.
Meindl Borneo - all leather with no liner at all. Beautiful boots to wear everyday. So much better for your feet not to wear a goretex lined boot in summer etc. love them.

Meindl get a lot of knocking these days, but my island pro still look really good after a years use.
