Fac air is it worth it ?

HW 97k one of the best full power and can convert to FAC if required but once you’ve tried one in 12flbs or a TX200 out to 30 yards + you may change your mind , don’t know what you can crank them up too but a good gunsmith will sort it if you don’t want to go PCP.

Lots about fx rifles on this thread but no love for the new breed of Eastern European pcp’s like kalibrgun, airmak, agt, and edgun so here’s my agt vulcan 3 in .22 with 700mm cz barrel

Just got the ZAN 20gr for my Crown MK2 have set my reg to 130Bar by their reckoning I should be on for apprx 950fps which is the sweet spot for my set up fingers crossed when the wind dies down I can get some grouping done then onto some rabbit clearance 👍.

Sometimes it takes a bit of tweaking but the effort is worth it slugs are a revelation in airguns 👍

Oh God it's rewoken the nightmare of long ago! Whatever the OP does don't get a Webley Patriot FAC. I had one maybe twenty p;us years ago (before the Tory pistol ban) and it was like being punched in the face by Mike Tyson. This was the .22 calibre one. Accuracy? It couldn't even manage three inches from rested at twenty-five metres yet my cheap decades old relined barrel BSA Martini Model 12 .22 Rimfire would put all shots in a three eighths inch circle at that range. Why does a Webley Patriot have a trigger guard? Most likely to thread the rope through when you use it as a boat anchor as that's all it's good for. Awful, awful, awful! Just nasty to shoot and more felt on the face recoil than a Holland's .470 NE double rifle I once shot. True!

Wouldn't it be more satisfying to own a 22 pump action and use 22 shorts? I've seen a video with that Hickock45 YouTube star demonstrating how quiet they are with standard velocity (800 fps or so) using a remington fieldmaster.

I understand the potential issue with 177 FAC is they will more easily go supersonic and muck up the accuracy. Presumably this one stays just under. I do wish it was possible to buy subsonic 17hmr rounds for something like this.

I’ve never heard that as being an issue
As I said, that’s a BSA R10 running 20ft/lb and it shoots like a laser.

Interesting about the supersonic thing though.

Agreed, .17hmr subsonic hollow points would be an interesting round. I’ve thought that for years and somebody’s missing a trick there I reckon? Not sure if it would be easy to get a consistent subsonic load in the magnum case though…but it would be good if it could be done.

I have just got my ticket for a .22 FAC air rifle for pest control. I have used my Walther RM8 .177 sub 12 with Precision Ballistics slugs for squirrels at short 10-15m distance and it is phenomenally accurate for head shots and always goes through, even body shots through the chest cavity.
However, I won't yet go near problem birds with it in case they get winged and end up off my property. I opted for FAC to ensure I had first time knock-down power with 20-ish grain slugs so there is no risk that they may move off.
It depends on where you are shooting and whether if you only injure something, you can safely take follow-up shots.
