Dog Protection Vest Suggestions

Can anyone recommend a good dog protection vest.

I've got a medium sized Black who comes with me on all my stalking as he's great company and better than my thermal for spotting deer. I do a lot of stalking across clearfell and when I put him in to find the deer after shot and settling time, he has scratched himself a couple of times on the brash sticking out of the ground. In winter he has a neoprene vest (Browning) that gives him some protection, keeps him warm and gives me a helpful place to warm my hands. In the warmer months he did have the browning orange dog protection vest (large) which fitted well and gave good chest protection. Unfortunately after about 10 outings the velcro stopped working as it became clogged up or just too fluffy and the stitching started to come apart.

Can anyone recommend a better dog protection vest that doesn't use velcro and won't lead to the dog over heating in spring/summer.

Many thanks

Try these guys. They make tactical vests for police dogs.

The chaps that use dogs for feral pigs in Australia and New Zealand use lengths of Fire hose opened up and cut to suit the chest and throat of the dogs.

I don't know if thi is still available

Watching with Interest, my GWP had a run in with a munty buck last week. Could have been a lot worse than it was.

Couldn't find that specific one but shooterking do a good full protection jacket for dogs. I've got my 5mm neoprene full jacket for the dog at the moment which offers enough protection for him in winter but what I realy need now is just a vest with a protective chest plate as a compromise between heat control and protection in the summer

Good thought but if I start using old tyres for my dogs stalking kit my wife suggest I have to do the same with mine :)

Try these explain . What you want.
A lot of the teckle lads get stuff off Primoz.
Helena makes excellent jackets as well

A mate of the sFa man Rene in Germany make protective jackets to suit (= made to measure) from the same material competitive fencing Olympians use.

Hi all,

I`m coming form the countrie where almost every third dog is wearing a vest during driven hunts. Let me share some personal insights, as my dog wears a vest during specific types of hunting – though not all, and this distinction is crucial for me.

Let me offer my definition of a dog protection vest:
It is specially crafted protective attire designed to shield hunting dogs from injuries and hazards during hunting expeditions. Typically constructed from robust materials that fend off the elements, these vests also provide a certain degree of shock absorption. In essence, the structure remains consistent across various manufacturers:

1. Outer layer (e.g., Cordura)
2. Middle layer (or layers) of puncture-resistant fabric (e.g., Kevlar or Dyneema)
3. Inner layer for temperature regulation

In Germany, hunting dogs wear protection vests for two primary reasons: Tracking wounded game, especially wild boars, and safeguarding against obstacles like blackberries, barbed wire, and other terrain materials.
However, these vests come with drawbacks. They can trap heat in warm temperatures, limit movement, and become quite heavy when wet.

Due to these considerations, my dog exclusively wears a vest during the pursuit of wounded game and in areas dominated by wild boars. For all other hunts, he wears a standard signal vest made from exceptionally lightweight material to enhance visibility.

A seasoned German dog handler once shared with me, "The dog's best protection vest is its agility."

Hope the international insights helps somehow.

I use a browning one.
Very handy when flushing also helps when you have those half blind trigger happy old codgers on a day out swinging there S/S all over the place. But i do like to use them on my cocker when shooting over OSR stubble , anyone who has ever had a cocker will know they do like to bounce and the last thing i want is my boy to impaling himself .
