So why use a 45/70 then? …not that I’m really bothered if you use one, but the argument that “U.K. deer don’t need that much killing” would seem to remove the need for a 45/70 with a 300gr bullet…

because it is already bigger than an expanded 243 , so even if it doesn't expand then it will still put a 45 cal hole through
and because , cars , engines , guns , willys are all better if they are bigger !

480gr bullet at 1325fps for the cute little martini 500gr bullet at 1550fps in my sharps 45/120 , with black powder of course since anything else would just be sissy !
if i recall correctly the martini was 85gr black powder the 45/120 was yep 120gr of black powder…….
not sure where you get your 8% from puff ! (Just to be sure we are still bantering ?)

I think he may have googled and got the info for the original 45/120 in the 2-7/8ths case rather than the non original 45/120 3-1/4‘’
what i would really love is a 50/140 , obviously with black powder !
I did Google it…the MH is still the man’s choice…
