Cleaning a plastic rifle stock (help please)

Hi All

I have a Saeur 101 rifle that the stock has over the years become tacky (my own fault) with being too liberal with spray oil applications I suspect. I have tried using a soapy rag but to no avail. Can anyone suggest how I should proceed to get the stock back to it's original state.

I've used hand sanitiser to remove tape residue in the past...spot test to be sure

Take the stock off the rifle, remove any removeable metal parts and leave it in hot water and washing up liquid for a couple of hours then rinse thoroughly. Do not use any solvents, such as alcohols etc. because these may damage the plastic. If that doesn't work you could treat yourself to a nice new stock

If it's anything like the browning or sako soft touch, it Will want stripping off. Pain in the arse too!

The forend of my Benelli 20b went tacky… I took the coating off rubbing it with a weak-ish solution of bicarbonate of soda following a suggestion on another thread on here.

Quite pleased to see the colour didn’t change n wish I’d done it a couple of years ago… I’m not sure why it went tacky but I have my suspicions that a sachet of the Napier VP90(?) in the cabinet might have had something to do with it?

I'll give this a try it's much appreciated. My wife however has stated that a new rifle stock equates to a new handbag . Hence my reaction as it could end up being a very expensive solution ! I'll let you know how I get on. Thank You
