Partners to be quizzed in new gun licence screening

Maybe the police need to look in on themselves first? After all, we have seen a number of officers being prosecuted for murder, the vetting process within these forces needs seriously upgrading in my opinion.
As for legal FA/SG owners being questioned and their partners with regards to their being responsible enough to own weapons, I can see some sense in it, but if someone has a partner who hates what they do, or is going through a divorce, etc it would hardly be fair on the FAC holder.
Its not uncommon for some people to make up lies and cause issues when a divorce is going on, and it would not be the first I have heard of a partner making false claims against someone who owns a firearm. It would make it difficult for any FEO to decide on what course of action to take? But no doubt they would take the easiest choice and seize any weapons.

I am fortunate in that my other half is part of my business and also has an open FAC and her own rifle. However, I can see some serious problems arising if they make this type of questioning part of the application or renewal process.

A friend of mine used to run a large company supplying door staff for nightclubs- a girl approached him for a job, she failed to get the SIA security badge due to a previous conviction so he could not employ her- a few weeks later he bumped into her and he again apologised that he could not employ her- no issues was her response as she had just been accepted into the police force.

Is this really anything new, I can remember before I left home and the local bobby used to check your cabinets and count ammo, he always had a chat with my father and the last feo to check my paperwork asked a few enquiry type questions to Mrs Zero as he finished off his paperwork. Think it's just how they've been taught to work, enquire and notice stuff..

I think the sooner we understand that an application for a FAC is two part the better

Part 1 - legally required questions and answers to test the suitability of the applicant to obtain/hold a FAC
Part 2 - supplemental questions and answers not legally required to remove any risk of comeback on the police under any circumstances.

may be cynical but I am afraid it is the truth - the authorities are all playing the same game of blame avoidance - viz - the Police, the Post Office, Border Force etc etc and not least The Government

Firstly why does the shooting community hear of this from the BBC. Why aren't BASC/SACS leading on this? No reply as yet from BASC to this thread why?
Having gone through a divorce where my wife solicitors advised her to play the firearms threat line I am very alarmed by the current trial.
Surely the police have much higher priority matters to resolve. Also in such rare cases if no firearms then the controlling person will have access to other lethal weapons if need be.
Another issue is what happens if your partner or wife has a mental condition and your their career or alike. How is that going to work.?
Pity police don't concentrate on known issues eg drug abuse it would save far more lives!

Lots of people are understandably cynical about this type of arse-covering, but unfortunately it is increasingly necessary for arses to be covered so that people don't get blamed for stuff that isn't their fault. Imagine Joe Bloggs goes nuts and shoots his wife and them himself. Nobody could have forseen it coming, but the FEO and manager that granted his certificate will be immediately under the spotlight. They can say "we just didn't think this would happen..." OR they can say "we didn't think this would happen BECAUSE we asked Mrs Bloggs all about Joe and here's what she said..."

If it isn't written down, then it never happened...
