Renewal application rejected

Just sent in my coterminus renewal a week ago, and today i got an email from the Met saying that my application was rejected due to my medical proforma not covering a period of minimum 10 years to date.
I'm with my current GP from August 2017 and the previous GP died in the pandemic of corona virus.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Surely your current GP should have all your medical records not just from 2017?

Ask them what's missing so you can take it up wi yer GP. Rather than just guessing

I have checked with my previous surgery and they confirmed they sent my records over.
But where does it says the medical proforma needs to cover minimum 10 years?

Surely the FEO could have telephoned you and resolved the rejection, very poor public relations exercise in my view. The FA Dept should have made it more clear that the period of the report completed should be 10 years, and, both on your guidelines for completion form, and the GP's. A lesson for all concerned ??. Good luck, and bad luck because you will have to start all over again, I bet the haven't returned your cheque !!

Totally agree! However, i paid online and in the email they stated my fee will be refunded in due course.

I’m seriously considering not even bothering with my GP , just pay Medicert £60 and let then send your whole record.

I have just put in for my renewals.I used Shootcert as my DR doesn't do private work.
I would recommend ShootCert 100%.Everything done & dusted in 4 days with co operation from my DR.
Total cost of £90 but worth it.

They don’t send your record, they get asked about 6 (from memory) relevant conditions and if they know of anything else that means you shouldn’t be in possession of firearms.

Aren’t your medical records all digitalised nowadays and electronically stored, opposed to old paper records?

A pi$$ poor show and service by the MET.. Obviously they only have one agenda, but refusing your renewal won’t do anything to keep illegal firearms off the streets which is what they need to be addressing…

I’ve had a text message from my surgery suggesting my annual check-up / health check being over 50 now… I may just take them up on it and quiz them about the practice policy on the FAC medical proforma’s.. Certs expire in December… getting the preforma signed in May may be too soon?

I get that , my point is if they want 10 yrs worth of history and you have only been with your current doc for say 5 yrs , that shouldn’t matter as your doc will have access you your records and therefore will be able to look back ten yrs and give the police the info that’s needed. Or am I missing something ?

Send an email to gp formally requesting an electronic copy of your ENTIRE file INCLUDING notes. They should send you a pdf of your file. Send that on to whoever you choose to complete your application...shotgun medical in my case...they have all they need unless a licencing team decide to make up more rules as they go along.

This where BASC needs to step up to the plate...gp proforma isn't a legal requirement but we as holders understand the request, so why don't the major bodies such as BASC lobby to have a consistent timescale that gp's MUST complete...5yrs, 10yrs, or whatever! 5 years makes sense as it will cover a certificates history since last renewal....or do licencing teams keep our records historically??? In the event of a new licence application then yes go for the whole file of medical background, after this every 5 years should only be needed.

I'm sick of hearing about licensing teams making up their own boundaries, terms, requirements or 'expectations' many of which are not legislative and yet bodies like BASC just bend over and take it without fighting for legislation to be adhered to by licencing teams despite us prospective certificate holders adhering to any and every 'rule' out there.

I reapplied and the medical form just asks if you have any of the following conditions, physical, mental, neurological.....nothing abut 10 years - sounds like a Met "rule", can you ring your FEO to discuss? I have mine on speed dial!!
