Roe bucks establishing territories

Just in from a evening walk and watching roe deer.
Saw a buck at 450 yds slowly working up a hedgerow. There was a doe in wheat about 200yds away. Up in the top corner of the field I saw another buck who was running down the hedgerow towards the first buck. On meeting there was a stand off then quite a set too. I was watching through bins and partner was using thermal. The view was a bit obscured by the wheat but the 1st buck was driven off.
The Victor then marked the adjacent telegraph pole by rubbing his head up and down the pole. After a few minutes all settled down and the 2 bucks seemed a bit more settled despite their close proximity

It is remarkable how tolerant they can be, and on the reverse how combative when they feel the need. Out with a guest a few nights ago, the target buck within range but not at a shootable angle, and another buck ran in barking behind it. Target buck (old lad) stood and stared at him for 15 minutes, I was convinced he’d charge off to defend the territory. He didn’t, and he’s now in the chiller. No idea why, possibly knew the buck and didn’t feel threatened?

Other times (locally) I’ve seen territorial scrapes every few yards of the territory (hundreds) and constant sparring. Territory quality, population density, particular buck characteristics, who knows why. I think I’ve come to expect the unexpected.

Evening Cyres,I went out yesterday evening deer stalking on the estate I work on as a keeper,and had three roe bucks run out on a field of spring beans. All three were really nervous and were running around in what seemed like panic mode. They never stopped long enough for a shot and covered a lot of ground before disappearing in to a wood. All I can think is there's a really aggressive older buck trying to establish territory. I'll be out later this week and see if I can catch up with them.

Still plenty of Roe movement going on here.
This older bully was being a total pain charging around hassling a young doe, I initially thought he was chasing a young buck until I was watching him in the binoculars.

Definitely getting territorial up with me. Two times in 24 hours a buck has come running a few hundred yards towards me across same bit, just to get a look at me and the dogs.

I’m not too sure, it might be just a green fertiliser cover crop, I’ve not seen the contractor to ask.

No, they’re likely yearlings ousted because the doe has given birth. This is completely what you would expect in late May to early June. Easy pickings by stalkers and drivers. It’s a good time to give them some rest actually.

Looks like peas. Bucks are quite active sorting territories esp as yearling bucks are on the move.

I've seen yearling roe kicked out by the doe at this time of year,and whilst they look lost,this was not behaviour consistent with being kicked out by the doe. A really aggressive roe buck will not tolerate other bucks on their ground at this time of year.
