Reserve would of been good, I would have jumped on that straight awayAnd maybe a reserve list? Someone that can attend at short notice?

All I will say is I was offered a place on this course as two people could not make it I received my training manual 21 days before the course date I could not book any accommodation as BDSC was not sure of the venue location,so yes I was the third person to drop out may I suggest in future to draw out the name two months before the course date .I would like to add Dawn a BDSC was very helpful She also let me keep the training manual after I offered to return it
Correct. The venue was planned well in advance.I find it hard to believe that the BDS would not know of the venue well in advance and from memory it was near kettering.
Thank you for correcting that BDS not BDSC I’m sure most people figured it outWell done for sayimg that you are one who could not attend.
Who are BDSC? I find it hard to believe that the BDS would not know of the venue well in advance and from memory it was near kettering.
Prior to putting my name in the hat, having to travel a fair way, I researched accommodation options... very little close to the venue, but a travel lodge with availability about 20 mins away with availability and prices reducing the nearer the date you risked booking. I always had a backup plan to just car camp if needed.
Yes, a longer lead time to the course would be beneficial in order to study the learning material (as previous posts ref dsc1 have all said give it a couple of months) but as I said in a previous post, as soon as I put my name in the draw, I shelled out the £20 for an online course recommended on the SD to give me a heads up Prior to potentially being invited.
In reality, for once the dates of a DSC1 offered fitted with my other commitments, with travel and accommodation it would have cost more than to attend one locally, but this would have been made up for by taking part with other SD members (if that makes sense)
Once again, I hope the members attending had a successful weekend.
Thank you for correcting that BDS not BDSC I’m sure most people figured it out
Its that time of year when, thanks to the Supporters of this site, we offer 5 places to young or upcoming deer stalkers the chance to take their DSC Level 1 course with the BDS.
This year its at Boughton Estate again, near Kettering, Northants. The dates are 31st May to 2nd June 2024 inclusive.
If you want a chance of winning a free place to take your DSC 1 you need to PM me your full details via PM on this site to be entered. You do not need to be a BDS member.
So required is the following.
Full name.
Address
Email address
FAC number if you have one.
Mobile number.
THIS IS ONLY OPEN TO MEMBERS OF THIS SITE WHO HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR 30 DAYS AND HAVE 30 CONSTRUCTIVE POSTS. IT IS NOT OPEN FOR PEOPLE TO JUST JOIN THE SITE AND THINK THEY CAN HAVE A CHANCE AT WINNING. THAT WOULD BE TOTALLY UNFAIR TO THE LONG STANDING MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS OF THIS SITE.
It is up to each candidate to find local accommodation, if needed. Not BDS or the SD site. If you are chosen to go, you will be expected to pay back this site if you cancel for no good reason.
Those picked will have their details sent to BDS, it is then up to you to contact them to finalise times etc. The SD site will pay for the course.
CLOSING DATE FOR YOUR NAME TO BE INCLUDED IS 30TH APRIL 2024.
Good luck.
Malcolm
I never got the venue location All I was told that it would be in Kettering big place that Kettering no point booking accommodation on the east side if the course is on the west side To be honest the thought of leaving my rifle in the car for three nights and two days put me on edgeOK, Fair shout. But do you know if the venue changed from what was originally posted?

Boughton Estate.
It said so in the very first advert for the course on here. So everyone knew where it was before they put their names in the hat.
Nowt wrong with leaving your rifle in the car, provided you lock the doors. And keep bolt and ammo separate.
I must of missed the Boughton Estate bit not that it’s important now ,I let the BDS and SD that I would not be attending very quickly so they had time to find a replacement so all is good in the world . I have not now or ever will leave my rifle unattended when out of the cabinet what you do with yours is up to youBoughton Estate.

Just got home from completing the course, a HUGE thank you to all of the supporters for contributing and another HUGE thank you to the site administrators for propositioning the whole scheme, its greatly appreciated not only from myself but I'm sure from all of the other recipients also.
It was a great course, the trainers were great and very approachable as were the estate staff, can't praise them enough. I know I passed my marksmanship test and also the ID test but as for the others I will have to wait and see. Although from the thorough training I received to fill the gaps in my knowledge on species I don't have around my neck of the woods, I feel pretty confident I did well.
Huge thank you to everyone involved in making it happen, hopefully I will be able to pass it on by becoming a supporter also and help continue the good work of you lovely bunch!

Have you seen the length of a Blaser bolt mateGlad it went well!
Fingers crossed that you did OK in the other tests
Don't you find that a bit awkward at service stations and so on? Generally it's more discreet to put the bolt in your pocket and leave the rifle in the car when you go to pay for your fuel, than it is to carry the whole rifle in with you.
Its down to me to find the replacement, not BDS.I must of missed the Boughton Estate bit not that it’s important now ,I let the BDS and SD that I would not be attending very quickly so they had time to find a replacement so all is good in the world .
