Stop & Search.

Yep, so reading that if you are a lawful citizen and haven't committed a crime you can just carry on walking and say nothing.. You don't have to give your name or details, and if they detain you without setting out why you have the grounds to you can make a claim against them.. plenty of YouTube Auditors have done it scores of times, their reasoning is to educate the police into what they can get away with and what they can't. It's amusing viewing.
Yea.... amusing viewing.

A cop who has some suspicion, and their tool to further investigate..... is to stop and search the person..... and either prove their suspicions (and lock em up) or not prove them (free to go)!

Walk off...... thus perhaps causing further suspicion. The cop is well within their rights to arrest them on suspicion of whatever they think the may have, or may not have been up to ...... if you've done nothing wrong.... worsening the situation.

We need to worry about creating a system of police who are afraid to 'police' and just get involved after the event!

For those in doubt see:
Sections 1-3 Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 & PACE code A.
Thanks for that, I can see that it's not written in plain English, no wonder it's interpreted in so many ways... It must be extremely difficult for police constables to remember and interpret this correctly.

Yes agreed.
Plenty of undeniable crimes are committed before people's very eyes that could result in arrests, but it seems to not be the way that policing is conducted in these times.

Last night around midnight one of my Granddaughters (Lives with us) was walking through a small Park/ Play area with a (Boy) friend.
Unmarked car pulled up and two females emerged and approached the kids….we’re police these are our numbers and this (Waving lanyard with something on end credit card sized) is our authority to stop and search you because you are acting suspiciously.
Checked down their socks and in their trouser waistbands, then they gave them a ticket to take to a police station in case they want a report on the action taken, then bade them goodnight.
Does anyone know if this is an okay procedure, like, is walking through a play area (About 35 mtrs x 40 mtrs.) surrounded by houses and a B road considered acting suspiciously enough to warrant being S&S?
Sarah Everard came to mind.
I will be accompanying her to police station.
Thanks, Ken.
On the information provided No.

As BWV is overt recording, officers must declare wherever possible when they are commencing audio and video recording during each and every encounter. The use of BWV must be proportionate and necessary to the situation. BWV use should be 'incident specific. '

If you carried on reading, you’d find the below…

“However, as a general rule, where an officer is in uniform and is clearly carrying or wearing a suitably identified camera (clearly labelled as an audio and visual recording device) this condition is considered to have been satisfied”

Which is why most forces have now opted for doing just that, or having a camera with a big colour screen on the front.

Providing it’s all bona fide, I would be happy for my grand kids to be stopped, it shows the police are out and about. If a choice uniformed police only,
But a patrol is a patrol and worth supporting

Plain clothes can throw a shadow on it without a doubt but the more it happens safer the streets

Police have a crap job anyway good to see they are mixing with the good guys going about their normal life

Announcing and commencing recordingUsers should ensure that they check their camera at the start of their shift, andperiodically during their shift to ensure it is functioning correctly and has sufficientbattery. At the start of a recording, or as soon as practicable, the user is to make averbal announcement that they are recording both visually and audibly. Thisannouncement should be in clear understandable language, tailored to the subjectsthey are communicating with, considering any disabilities or impairments.Users should specifically ensure that this is complied with when operating in plainclothes, or in a private dwelling, as per the case of AB v Hampshire Constabulary, first decision under new IPT rules - The Investigatory Powers Tribunal

Stop and search: police powers

A police officer has powers to stop and search you if they have ‘reasonable grounds’ to suspect you’re carrying:

  • illegal drugs
  • a weapon
  • stolen property
  • something which could be used to commit a crime, such as a crowbar
You can only be stopped and searched without reasonable grounds if it has been approved by a senior police officer. This can happen if it’s suspected that:

  • serious violence could take place
  • you’re carrying a weapon or have used one
  • you’re in a specific location or area

Before you’re searched

Before you’re searched the police officer must tell you:

  • their name and police station
  • what they expect to find, for example drugs
  • the reason they want to search you, for example if it looks like you’re hiding something
  • why they’re legally allowed to search you
  • that you can have a record of the search and if this is not possible at the time, how you can get a copy

Removing clothing: police powers

A police officer can ask you to take off your coat, jacket or gloves.

It seems that the OPs granddaughter complied with the police and treated them with respect. Well done her.
I would hope and expect that we all behave like this. The police’s job is difficult enough as it is without idiot YouTubers antagonising them for 5 minutes of fame.

Skip to 12:25 for the recap. Detained and searched for "giving us evils"...

Not as good as his other video where the officer thinks that anything his mother finds offensive is a public order offense.
