Isuzu D-Max 1.9 compared to Hilux

Hilux will rust quicker than the equivalent L200
Interesting. I had a discussion on what's better than what etc with the lads that do Dinitrol coating for a living near Stirling. Their opinion was they're all as bad as each other. It would be interesting to compare trucks that had spent all their time in the same location, say a coastal town, and see which, if any, held up best.

I’m using Buzzweld Chassis Guard on my Hilux for the second year and it’s brilliant stuff, far easier to apply than Dinitrol or Waxoyl type products and really good protection.

All down to proper manintenance my last one was brilliant again bought from new you only get out what you’re prepared to put in
I wish you all the best. To be fair, only poking a wee bit fun, although I do know of at least two folk who found themselves getting recovered in the first week of ownership of their 2 ltr bi-turbo models. Really nice trucks to drive though, especially the 10 speed box.
Varied reports on the new Ford/VW ones in terms of gremlins.

If your options are open you will find a 178 BHP manual L200 for that money and probably be happy with it

Yes they can go wrong - but so can all the other brands

The Izuzu are agricultural to drive
You need to drive a 2022 onwards !

I have a 2018 Hilux - I would check with your preferred mechanic if they can look after it - the local places to me said a lot of the few things that have popped up they cannot sort - cam belt / glow plug etc
ended up with main dealer doing it - sometimes it’s been great to use them other times I feel I’m being ripped off by children who couldn’t care less.

I would look seriously at the D-max for the next one.

Did you grease the props ? as I do all the joints on my D-Max as the Ranger x 2 Shogun's x2 Nissan Patrols
I’ve a good friend that owns his own garage I wouldn’t trust a main dealer for servicing he’s been looking after my vehicle for the past ten years not cheap but extremely reliable just a phone call and I’m in next day.
Ford say 20000 or two years between service for the ranger I do twelve months regardless of mileage.

Is that a yes the props were greased lol...
I do mine every 3-4 months takes about 10 mins.

I’m on my third DMax. The new 1.9 is fine for me- mainly work (45K/year) with a reasonable load at all times, road/tracks/fields, occasional towing no problem noticed compared to previous vehicles but if needed you can get a engine power upgrade I think.
The gearing in this model (73 plate) has been tweaked and this has improved acceleration when pulling away.
Handling- each model has got better. Now very comfortable to be in and holds the road well.
I don’t think a pickup is ever going to be an Audi/Volvo etc but it does what I need and I will be getting another Isuzu DMax…. hopefully not for a while though.

Definitely looks like you get a lot of L200 for your dollar these days, what with folk being put off by Mitsubishi pulling out, even though guaranteed spares and service still available.

Remember if you can get a Hilux which is under 10 years old and has done less than 100,000 miles, simply getting it in for a service at a main dealer will get the warranty re-activated - well worth doing - I had a faulty glow plug replaced that wasn’t causing any noticeable issues but showed up on engine diagnostics.
Another benefit with the main dealer is for around £20 they’ll come and collect your truck and bring it back after it’s been serviced.

Live near the coast and plenty of example of every manufacturer can be seen at country gatherings

I’ve applied Bilt Hamber rust preventer products to mine with the exception of last year so mine in good order in comparison to equivalent Hilux of which I know of three examples same age as mine that have required welding

Parts available still though V expensive from Mitsubishi if you go via Partsouk you save approximately two thirds

Recent purchase example (steering angle sensor) - Mitsubishi UK 330£

Partsouk for genuine part - 98£ delivered

Service parts available from local motor factors and everything consumable is available

A capable diy mechanic (my level) can service pretty much everything with the exception of changing springs off the driveway

Clutch pack lasts circa 150k even with towing

LUK, SKF etc quality parts available at reasonable cost

To be honest with Mitsubishi pulling out of the UK, I had dismissed them from the running
