How many days...?

Never heard of it, to be honest.

I'd take the battery one over gas as there's far less warm up time. It effectively works by heating a pad that's got some chemical that biting bugs don't like. I had a pile of dead midges last time and there was that many dead, the floor had turned black. The flextail will also work better on the move as they're designed for it

Great idea, thank you. And thanks for the Flextail link.

I had heard about midges prior to my first Scotland trip and was quite sure that I could find a solution. This led to weeks of testing various sprays and cremes on our horses which narrowed down to a paste called Ultrathon by 3M. Confidently I set off for the highlands with my wonder goop only to be laughed at in unison by thousands of the wee little bastards. The only way to find relief was to apply it so thick that they were stuck in it before having a chance to bite.

Joined earlier this year to gather information and lurk. Have enjoyed following many conversations and gathered valuable information. Now it's time for my wife and I to book.
We have settled on Winston Churchill (seems to have a great reputation amongst you all). We would like to get one or two nice stags each and we will be hunting the first week of September. Not sure how many days needed. I was thinking four. Is that a good amount of time?
We will be coming from the US so any other advice is welcome.
Thanks,
Greg
Did you go with Winston? What was your experience of Argyll?

Long overdue note to thank everyone who contributed to my post looking for stalking info. My wife and I had an absolutely perfect 4-day hunt with Paul from Winston Churchill. He is a wonderful man and climbs like a mountain goat. My wife affectionately refers to the trip as "Scottish Boot Camp", referring to our morning and evening jaunts straight up the hills.
We each got four stags and I attached pics of the two biggest. We loved our trip so much we are coming back for more reds in 2026.
Now that we are hooked, we would like to come back for Roe and Fallow. Any suggestions on best times would be much appreciated.
Again, thank you for the great info on this site and for making a yank feel welcome.
Greg

Congratulations to you and your wife on those two beauties. As you've probably realized, its a tough living in the highlands and most heads don't get that big. Once that land gets in your blood, it doesn't leave. Looking forward to hearing about your next trip. Merry Christmas.
