Handy for foxing…

For anyone that's interested in trying a few MP3 calls on one of these wonderful gizmos (I have only just ordered mine so can't really know if it's wonderful or not), I have uploaded a heap of calls that I got from another SD member some while back.

48.32 MB folder on MEGA

Caveat: Don't blame me if they're s***e, I didn't create them, and to be honest I probably haven't listened to most of them.
Obviously if they turn out to be as you anticipate it will not be the fault of the Foxyboy gift to the SD massive…..

Exactly for less than a tenner, it’s pocket size and easy to use by the video. A real world test write up would be good
Your wish is my wotsit - see my last night’s post on… err…”Out last night” thread.
You will be impressed - I know I was…

Right then - real world update on the cheap pocket caller.
First time out last night in not the best conditions - muggy/thick air etc…
Three foxes definitely came in to the caller plus one that I may have walked into so definitely a major shock surprise but a rather good one!
Using the caller was very straightforward and I was even able to turn it on and off and select calls - wearing thin leather gloves. The only improvement I will make is to insert a silent “gap” between different calls to avoid the sudden change from one call to another - trust me that can be a shock for the fox and you!
I developed a method of just hanging the caller on the front pole of the quads (with the red display pointing towards me) but this will need fettling as it fell off at one stage into the mud! Maybe a sqeezable mobile phone cradle fixed to the quad sticks - to be considered…. I also tried setting it on top of a fence post and moving away some distance but again be aware of change in calls. To address this I will copy more of each call onto the SD card - currently I have perhaps 5- 10 minutes of each call on the 32 Card but there is plenty of space on the card for more.
If dipping into the quagmire that is FB’s thoughts do take a note of the individual calls numbering, this makes it easy to tap each in and have the full run of individual calls - I put the starting numbers on the back of the caller and copied the details onto a Note on my Iphone to be sure.
As on the earlier post, my post on the “out last night” thread shows the results incl. videos.

Some great tips there FB, particularly like the one about attaching to the B&Q deluxe, I always find myself juggling with the Icotec remote at the crucial moment, and as we all know it is made out of the noisiest material known to man.
I tried a lanyard on it around my neck but by God I’m surprised you couldn’t hear me from across the water.
Are the call numbers limited to single digits or can you have more using double digits?

Cheers

You are welcome - as an Icotech 500 user too I feel for you. I also have the caller and remote on lanyards - noisy spaghetti or wot?
No limit on call numbering - my first call comprises 88 identical recordings which just repeat until 89. Second call repeats from 89 to 213 and the next to 335 etc… These are all short 10/20 seconds calls so repeating them gives a longer play time of each call. To move to another call you simply key in the respective call number i.e. 1, 89, 214, 336….
Just make sure you open a new folder for each call and copy that call within the unique folder (e.g.1-88) on the micro card.
I would really like to record my handsqueak and copy it to the wee caller but can’t figure out how to make it an MP3 - offers anyone?

Use the Voice Memos app on your iPhone to record your squeaking then search t’interweb for ‘free m4a to mp3 converter’. There’s a website called Freeconvert.com that can upload your voice memo recorded in m4a format and convert it to mp3. You can then download the result back to your phone and from there you can share it to yourself by email. Copy that from your computer onto your SD card.

You could probably skip the iPhone altogether but I’m not at my laptop to see how to do it.

Ahah!
The imac has a voice record function which will indeed allow me to skip the Iphone stage. Pity really ‘cos that’s the only bit I understood….
However I will give it a go in the interests of my teeth and gums…
Thank you sir.

Well the Iphone holder idea works a treat but make sure you attach it to the rear pole - ask me how I know…

I have an mp3 file of a handsqueak that I recorded off an online video and looped - it lasts 17 minutes. Can't figure out how to post a link to it here, but if you'd like it, PM me your email and I'll email it to you.
