Giving up section 2

I'm thinking of giving up my shotgun certification. I've had a section 2 since I was 18, but next month it'll be 3yr since I last properly used my shotguns. I just do not have enough free time during the day to get out shooting for sport (the biggest thing stopping me getting into deer stalking). I have a rifle with me 6 days a week for vermin.

I only renewed in October, one with both section 1 & 2 expiry at same time, contsnimous or something??

Question is will it bugger up my sec1 & since only renewed in October, anyone know if I could get a pro rata refund??

Or is it more hassle than it's worth?? 😂

No refund given. The fee doesn’t even cover the cost of processing the app. Plus it’s only something like a tenner more to have both certs as coterminous.

More hassle than it’s worth. Keep the shotgun for that rare occasion.

I use my shotgun meaningfully twice a year - a sim day, and one keepers day. Even if I didn’t do them I’d keep it anyway - you know the moment you get rid is the moment you decide you want to use it!
 
Don’t do it
It’s pennies to keep it and a pain in the hoop when you decide to get it again after lapsing it


Ask me how I know that ? 😂

Why bother changing it now. Wait till your next renewal. You can sell the shotguns any time. There isn't a "use it or lose it" thing with section 2.

Was more hoping to get my renewal fee back. But apparently it's a non starter!

Given what you do for a living, you should at least keep a .410 for HD.
Like you, I have had a SGC from a very young age, but they barely get used now I have a FAC. But I would never be without a .410, for the reason given above.

life has a way of changing. Once you have taken the time and effort of getting a SC or FAC together with a number of guns, I would not give them up unless there are very good reasons to. Ditto for other things like fishing rods etc

I have had years when I have not got out. My first love is wild fowling, but there have been years when I haven’t got out. I have don’t have much time for fishing. But earlier this year I had a day on one out islands tramping across the moor to little lochs catching little Brownies with my splitcane No 3 weight rod.

If you give up your certificate and guns you will end up with little cash, but a whole heap of expense when you stop using a rifle 6 days a week and have time to go out for a potter with a shotgun.

It will happen, I promise - one day, perhaps not in the next year or two.

Biggest challenge are families. And suddenly they are gone. That little person jumping in puddles is suddenly left home, got there own life etc. That being at the coal face - suddenly now youngsters are doing it and you are supervising etc etc.
