I thought the whole point of the Bear Grylls programmes was to demonstrate basic survival skills in the unlikely event that you end up in a situation, not to deliberately put yourself in harms way!!!

BEAR his names rupert ,does it sound so tough now--rupert grylls- how many books would that sell.if i get stuck lets hope its with lofty wiseman or ray mears

NO ITS NOT

it is edward michael gryllis ,what news paper do you work for ??? they print crap as well

Sounds like the tragic story of Chris McCandless (?) as recounted in the book "Into the Wild" by John Krakauer. Well worth reading if anyone is interested

bear

Its always tough when someone who surely as a love forthe outdoors, but is a little light on the reality of what nature can produce,
loses there life in these circumstances.
This world is full of folk who believe what is produced on TV a lot of it is S----E but they believe what they think they see,
the producers of such crap are the ones who need to be challenged to show the truth.
Then you would see the camera teams make up and medical teams and ex special forces with specialist equipment, there to get them out of the crap in the back ground.
but this would not make good TV.
my thoughts are with his family at this tough time
THERE ARE FOLK OUT THERE WHO WOULD IN NO DOUBT BE ABLE TO SURVIVE IN THESE EXTREME CONDITIONS. :tiphat:THIS SHOULD BE A WARNING TO ALL WHO TREAD THIS ENVIRONMENT TO LET OTHERS KNOW OF YOUR INTENDED ROUTE AND TIME SCALE WHEN OUT STALKING ITS EASY TO GET INTO TROUBLE WHEN OUT IN THE WILDERNESS AND WEATHER TURNS BAD VERY QUICKLY .:british:

Rannoch Moor, now that's a beautiful and awesome place to go

As always,, very sad for the people left behind.

The poor bloke would have been Ok if he had found a 5 star hotel like "young teddy" reportedly always seems to?

Poor lad
It seems close to the into the wild film about the guy mcalister in Alaska who did a similar thing. I am sure it is everyones thought who likes the nature to live in the wild just somtimes nature reminds us of who is boss

Point of order gents Bear Grillis, Ray Mear,s Lofty Wiseman, Les Hiddens, Les Stroud, Bruce Parry the list goes on , they are only showing what they will do in a situation we don't have to follow any of what they do or show .

They are not endorsing a product the product is nature we can't even get a accurate weather forecast .

What the press doesn't say is what actually killed him, the whole picture is not on show, who knows where if any there wasn't a medical problem, the area he was in may look harsh but it isn't even close to harsh there is various huts railway huts stations roads and tracks used daily .

Theres something the we are not getting from the press just maybe the whole picture wouldn't sell papers .

Seems to be the survivalists of the world are getting slated for there interpretation of surviving yet had nothing what so ever to do with this guys demise .

Why.

its sad to see things like this i also watched into the wild again very sad no preperation and not fully understanding how harsh things can be. we spent some time in newzealand hunting you cannot do these things without proper equipment in remote parts gps ,sat phones in case something goes wrong so people can get to you .the pilots in nz where unreal fly in all conditions if they have to at the push of an emergency button. most of all stick to a plan have enough food /water and warm clothing. a minor ailment can turn nasty in those conditions, atb wayne

Bear Grylls Adventurer Dies In Wild

The Scottish Sun headline put this correctly, so the post title should have reproduced this as 'Bear Grylls adventurer dies in wild'.

The deliberate alteration changes the effect.I appreciate that a change of emphasis makes it less sensational. I made the mistake of following the snappy SD by-line so I'm now disappointed and saddened on both fronts.

Rannoch moor? Can anyone think of a much worse place to try and "live of the land" in mid winter?

Just Darwin doing his thing baby.....

Personally i could only watch him for five minutes maybe ten on a good day before he made a complete arse of himself and then turn over.

The next fella nearly as bad as him is the prat doing the River Monsters programme.

As said by others, i dont see the need to rip the **** out of a yound man dying.. Better to have lived 29 years than exist for 70 in your arm chair

In Sunday afternoon mode - so brain not 100%, but read through thread and can only see the original news article. Of the posts, cant find any mention that anyone has fuller facts of the circumstances - unreserved apologies if I have missed anything on that.

Assuming the above is the position, I am rather disappointed with some of the criticism and 'mirth' that has been posted thus far. It paints this Forum ( in my personal view ) and its membership in a relatively poor light.

Aside from question of taste and consideration, anyone that shoots should be only too aware of the nature of the Press - we've collectively suffered more than enough from them! From one article - in The Sun for heaven's sake - I don't see enough fact to base any public comment on the person concerned or the circumstance of his demise - putting aside the rights or wrongs of doing so.

If I were a friend or relative of this guy, I would be left of a very Press stereotypical impression of the members here.

I'm not perfect by any means and am not judging others - because I dont know them, only judging what people have CHOSEN to write.

And I'm not going near the Bushcraft Celebrity debate with a barge pole!:-D

I've had lots of adventures - mostly agree with the definition of Adventure as being the event where you messed up, possibly multiple times; but have the luxury of looking back on your actions. From what was reported and implied by others - I've done worse and by luck or skill ( tending toward the former ) got away with it. There's a number of times when I could have bought it - and in far more ridiculous/ silly/ stupid circumstance than those reported in this case. For the sake of my loved ones and creditors. I would only have hoped not to have them see such public derogatory commentary.
