25 06 or 6.5 creedmoor

Looking for a second barrel for my Blaser ,I need something that will reduce the damage on roe deer , thinking of a 25 06 or a 6.5 creedmoor I’m not shooting over large distances normally between 100 to 200 yards any advice would be greatly received

.25-06 would have to be a custom barrel wouldn’t it?
.25-06 can be messy on roe with the wrong bullet choice and not 100% placement.

3006 a slow 150 grn not too bad but if I drop down to 125 grn they are too fast do a lot of damage

Change the bullet you use. Much cheaper than adding another barrel.

25-06 will, in my experience cause more damage than any 6.5

Though you could download and try alternative construction bulket

The bonded core types may not cause as much damage

But shot placement really is key here

Close range - head and neck to minimise waste

Personally I’d be trying a different load in your existing barrel Rather than the expense of an additional barrel

25 is a great caliber. My father has had one for as long as I can remember. He is struggling to get the bullets he wants now.
6.5 will be easier and have more choice.
Your roe won't be able to pick between them. Bullet choice would be my leading factor

All .257s are cooler than all 6.5mms.
If i wanted to shoot a 6.5mm bullet, I'd get a 25-06, not the Creedmoor. Wouldn't even be a decision to make for me.

Which means you should go for the Creed, because I'm a tad eccentric.
With it's better availability of ammo/components, and a huge range in the same, it is more versatile, easier to tailor to what you want, and will do what you want.
It is by far the better choice.

However, do what Heym and Ronin said first. Saves unnecessary expense.

Although not generally popular or fashionable in UK, I've used 25-06 since 2000 & never had any issues with excessive meat damage. Depends on the bullet you use.
25-06 is a great round - never fails to satisfy.
I use Nosler 110gn Accubonds MV around 2850fps effectively on roe, reds, fallow & feral goats.
Though frankly as a 25-06 barrel is not now usually produced by Blaser & would be a custom barrel I reckon the 6.5x55SE would be a great choice.
I have a Steyr Mannlicher in 6.5x55 & it's very effective with a 123gn Hornady SST though there'd be less meat damage on roe if a Nosler Accubond were used.

I’ve got both , love my 25-06 ….. but I’d get the 6.5 creedmoor ,

Not for the hype , hunting ranges one will kill just as good as the other

But with the impending doom of potential lead ban , the creed will be better suited and much more options for bullet choice.

With the target shooters now staring to make 25 creedmoor and 25x47 , I think in the next couple of years we may see more manufacturers for 25 cal , however it’ll need to be a fast twist barrel in either to future proof yourself.

Hornady precision hunter 117g eldx in my 25-06 is frighteningly accurate and has now been tested one a few roe. Performs with entry approx 1-1.5x bullet diameter, expands beautifully even on chest shot small roe, and expands/exits with golf ball sized hole

Hits Hard has knock down power
Light recoil just like firing a .243

Don't like lack of brass or bullet choice

Most are 1:10 or 1:9 twist

IF go this route get 1:7 twist to be able to use the new higher bc berger pr hornaday bullets
